Mar 18 2011Don't Worry, Kevin Costner Definitely in Superman Movie

Finalizing what was already suspected for the last month, Warner Bros. has at last closed a deal with Kevin Costner and acknowledged that he'll be playing Superman's adoptive father, Jonathan Kent, in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. The gilled hero of Waterworld joins Henry Cavill, who's playing the alien hero, and Diane Lane, the Kryptonian's adoptive mother who looks really great for her age.

In the official release, Snyder elaborated:

Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time.

But will he be able to communicate the wackiness of when an infant Clark Kent ends up comically spinning his father around over his head like a Barney and Bamm-Bamm scene from The Flintstones? We'll see.

they should add a massage parlor scene in there, just for him

You have my approval as a Superman Fan. You are allowed to carry on, now.

Jon Schneider is easily the best Jonathon Kent so far for live action Superman media. But since, for multiple reasons, getting him to play Jonathon Kent for the rest of his life is not likely, I think Kevin Costner could do almost as good of a job. Maybe as good/better. Who knows? I can't wait.

"No... it's Kansas. Smallville, Kansas that is!"
