Mar 3 2011Diane Lane Is Superman's Hot, Adoptive Mother

Zack Snyder always makes sure to put his distinctive, isn't-this-awesome? sheen on every slow-mo'ed aspect of his films, and the part of Martha Kent in his new Superman movie will not escape that fresh coat of polish. Warner Bros. has officially announced that the beautiful Diane Lane will play Kal-El's adoptive mother, the woman who gives the infant Superman a home, the Earthly name of Clark Kent, and now probably an Oedipus complex. Also, she will likely be married down to Kevin Costner, and I'm guessing will have a single grey streak in her hair--you know, to show she's sort of old.

Of the casting, Snyder said:

"This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination."

Right, wisdom and wonder. But man, she looks great, doesn't she?

Well, at least he doesn't have to worry about them dying of old age before the sequels.

Ohh, a Cougar Kent...

She's needs to be younger when he's an infant and 20 odd years later when he's superman, she'll be old. Ain't time funny.

I agree with KenH, she doesn't look too young for the age when she finds Kal-el. On the other hand, Zack Snyder aged Carla Gugino about... ten years in Watchmen? No way did she look like Malin Akerman's mom, let alone old Sally Jupiter in the comic. As long as he finds a Lois who doesn't look as jail-batey as Kate Bosworth (or as bland).
