Sep 3 2008'Watchmen' Case Gets Trial Date
Despite fanboy pleas that "fox sux and watchmen kicks ass and i want to see it, fox is stupid," Warner Brothers' Watchmen adaptation is still in danger of delay, if not worse, over a rights dispute with Fox. But the studio battle for the property took a slight step forward yesterday when the presiding judge set a January 6th date for the case, providing some hope that the film could still make its March release date. Ok, so got that? January 6th is the day to shave your head, paint your body blue, and parade on the front steps of the courthouse screaming, "We want Watchmen, regardless of laws we don't fully understand!"

it wont be cancelled, prob just delayed and fox will get a fat check and some of the profits.

No, you know what? Fox knew that a Watchmen movie was being made, an offer was even made to their studio, but they refused. Why did they wait until the film was basically finished to sue? If they were truly concerned about their ownership of distribution (and not just money), they would have stopped production before it could have started. I don't think Fox should get zero from their lawsuit, they deserve something. But their action (or more appropriately, their blatant lack of action) speaks more than their fancy lawyers could ever say in court.

So are you assuming that Warner Bros didn't know this might happen? They have lawyers too you know, who are supposed to be checking things like who owns the rights to make a film. Please....
And show me where Fox 'waited' for the film to be made before they sued WB; Nikki Finke's timeline clearly shows otherwise....

The bottom line is that in this day and age the movie is going to be seen, no matter what.. So there's no point in bowing to FOX's demand that the movie not be released.
