Sep 4 2009 'Defendor' Trailer: Woody Harrelson is Wacky, Insane Superhero

defendor-trailer.jpg

Ever hope to see the 1994 Damon Wayans/David Alan Grier superhero comedy Blankman remade slightly more deadpan, with a hooker, and starring Woody Harrelson as a madman? No? Well, you should try to be more ambitious about wanting to see In Living Color-centric movies re-done in new and creative ways. (I have fantasies of a new version of Major Payne nearly every night, and it's fantastic.)

Anyway, regardless if you wanted it, here it is, gratis:

Aug 5 2009 'Zombieland' Trailer: Zombie Brains, Zombie Boobs, Timid Whining

zombieland-red-band-trailer.jpg

Put the kids to bed: there's a new, R-rated trailer for the undead brain-eater comedy Zombieland, and it fully earns its R-rating. Graphic content includes: lots of zombie carnage, bouncing zombie boobs in pasties, F words, and, most brutal, Jesse Eisenberg so far into Michael Cera's rival territory that he's surely by now a POW, captured and caged within his own slumped shoulders. Every time he speaks, you can't help but hear a phantom Arrested Development ukulele strumming faintly in the distance.

Jun 12 2009 'Zombieland' Photos: Duck, I'm Going to Hit this Zombie with a Bat

zombieland-harrelson.jpg

I'm pretty sure Shaun of the Dead has forever won the genre, but if you're interested in giving more zombie comedy a try, AICN has some shots from Ruben Fleischer's Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin.

In the above shot, is that Curb Your Enthusiasm's Jeff Garlin? Supposedly there's also a brief cameo involving a zombie Bill Murray, so I'm thinking maybe there's a subplot where the zombies find a Second City Rolodex and strategically hunt down alumni. These zombies specifically want brains capable of humorously improvising a series of thematically-related scenes.

Mar 12 2009 '2012' Viral Marketing Becoming Too Feasible

2012-woody.jpg

No, I'm not buying the disaster film's websites that claim life on Earth is ending in the year 2012, but I would believe these videos of Woody Harrelson ranting about living on a super volcano were real if he didn't begin them by introducing himself as Charlie Frost. I think I'll follow along with the series just in case it devolves to Woody shouting about the worth of hemp products. Then we'll know he's just lost it.

Oct 6 2008 Jesse Eisenberg Visiting 'Zombieland'

jesse-eisenberg-zombieland.jpg

Another young actor is joining a Woody Harrelson movie! Earlier came news of Kat Dennings joining Defendor; now it looks like The Squid and the Whale's Jesse Eisenberg is signing on to Zombieland:

[Eisenberg] is in final talks to join Woody Harrelson in Columbia Pictures horror comedy "Zombieland," about a mismatched pair of survivors who find friendship and redemption in a world overrun by zombies.

Eisenberg is in negotiations to play Flagstaff, a terrified shut-in whose cowardice makes him an expert at surviving the zombies but who is forced out of his shell to join the band of survivors, which includes Harrelson.

Wait, being a terrified shut-in makes you adept at surviving a zombie apocalypse? If that's the case, then I'm a regular... Fifth Element in Resident Evil? I don't know. Someone who's good at surviving zombie attacks. Because I'm a fearful hermit.

Oct 6 2008 Kat Dennings Joins a Fake Superhero Thing

kat-dennings.jpg

Kat Dennings, or Nora, as you know her if you watched Nick and Nora's Quantum iPod this weekend, is in talks to join Woody Harrelson and Sandra Oh in Defendor:

Kat Dennings, who stars in "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," which bowed in theaters this weekend, is in negotiations to join Woody Harrelson and Sandra Oh in "Defendor."

Written by Peter Stebbings, who also is making his directorial debut, the film centers on a regular guy (Harrelson) who believes he has a secret superhero identity. Dennings will play a teenager he befriends, while Oh is cast as his psychiatrist.

Man, another superhero thing? I love superheroes as much as the next dweeb, but this balloon is going to burst. There are just too many Iron Men and Hancocks and Batmen and Super Ex-Girlfriends and Superhero Movies to keep sustaining this boom. Mark my words, we're on the edge of collapse. Sell your collectible Slurpee cups now, before the crash.

Sep 29 2008 'Seven Pounds' Trailer Helps Everyone It Touches (Up to Seven People)

seven-pounds-trailer-smith.jpg

Whoops, sorry for the late start. Here's the trailer for Seven Pounds, more aggressive melodrama from the Pursuit of Happyness team of director Gabriele Muccino and dramatic thespian Will Smith. Smith did some undefined wrong in the past, and now he's going to help some people in a unmentionable way. I can't take all the vagueness and touching, Pax Network-level drama!

Jul 21 2008 A New Matthew McComaughdy: The 'Surfer, Dude' Trailer

surfer-dude-trailer.jpg

The ability for something more animal than man to excel in a sport; a plot involving a villain trying to capture our marginally sentient hero as part of a nefarious, ridiculous plan (it involves "digitizing" Surfer Dude); miles of blonde, flowing tresses: if it weren't for all the celebrity stoners in place of 12-year-olds, I'd swear this were a new entry in the Air Bud series (Surf's Pup?). It turns out it's Matthew McConaughey's misguided attempt at self-parody, which is much worse.

Jan 29 2008 AM Poster Post: No One Was Going To Tell Me About 'The Grand'?

grand-poster.jpg

There's an improvised poker comedy starring talent like David Cross, Cheryl Hines, and Richard Kind, and this is the first I'm finding out about it? Why has no one told me about this? Because attempt by the writer of Inspector Gadget, Elektra, and X-Men 3 to be a director? OK, that makes some sense.

Still, it could be good, right? Or at least very yellow.

Jan 22 2008 'Sleepwalking' Trailer Is Like I've Been Sleepwalking, But It Woke Me Up

sleepwalking-trailer.jpg

Overlook the initial desperation in conveying dysfunction (girl jumping off a diving board in roller skates and hating her life, the American Beauty music) and the distracting urge to figure out how you know young AnnaSophia Robb (from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Bridge to Terabithia, I eventually realized) and you might be tempted to think Sleepwalking could be decent if typical indie fare. Admittedly, the cast of Charlize Theron, Nick Stahl, Dennis Hopper, and Woody Harrelson looks somewhat promising, but with a visual effects artist at the helm, and a film colorist writing contrived lines like, "It's like I've been sleepwalking... but you helped me--you woke me up," I'll keep my reservations about this one.
