May 28 2009 'Land of the Lost' Has the Laziest Poster
"Poster designer! The new Land of the Lost poster is due in an hour!"
"Whatevs. I'll just cut out a photo of Will Ferrell, slap him into a white nothingness devoid of even shadow, and have the T-rex from the first poster bursting through the paper thin barrier that surrounds this surreal, nebulous space."
"That sounds like a really good poster."
"I know. Thanks."
Feb 26 2009 Will Ferell & Mark Wahlberg Are: A Sort of A-Team Parody
It's the news you've been waiting for. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg will soon be entertaining you as a comic, crime-fighting duo:
Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired “The B Team,” a spec pitch package for an Adam McKay-directed action comedy that will team Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as cops, with Chris Henchy and McKay writing the script.Pic will be a co-production between Gary Sanchez Productions and Mosaic. Sony has not set a release date on the film, but it is expected to go into production as quickly as the filmmakers can get it ready.
The comedy was pitched around town on Tuesday by Endeavor and CAA, and Sony co-president Matt Tolmach moved quickly. Tolmach was comfortable committing to a film without a finished script, because Columbia worked in exactly the same fashion on “Talladega Nights” and “Step Brothers,” both of which were set up with a pitch and the collaborative track record of McKay and Ferrell.
Good work, men. Now that we've bridged the gap between the Frat Pack and Entourage, the combination of Dude movies at our disposal are endless.

Feb 6 2009 'Land of the Lost' Trailer Helped Jared Lose Weight
Subway Freshbuzz, the only website that merges affordable foot-long sandwiches and entertainment, has posted a new Land of the Lost trailer. In this version, Will Ferrell says Matt Lauer can "suck it" instead of "eat it", because Subway Freshbuzz is always pushing the boundaries of good taste, just as Subway itself is always pushing the boundaries of tasting good. Oh, sorry, I was getting hypnotized by the Jared's 10th anniversary "Pants Dance" flash game. Anyway, here's the trailer, embedded from YouTube so you won't consider opening starting a Subway franchise:

Feb 2 2009 'Land of the Lost' Super Bowl Spot
All within 30 seconds, see Will Ferrell sunbathe with a giant crab, attempt to handshake Matt Lauer, get covered in spiders, and stay motionless at the threat of a Tyrannosaurus Rex with little effect. Is it possible Dr. Sam Neill's advice was wrong?
Dec 22 2008 Will Ferrell Flees from Dinosaur (Artist's Rendering) in 'Land of the Lost' Poster
I don't want this to sound like I'm being disparaging towards dinosaur paintings--I am anything but negative towards dinosaur paintings, having once purchased a Sega Genesis game solely because of its dinosaur painting cover--but I'm not sure a photograph of real people fleeing from what is obviously a dinosaur painting works as a movie poster. Call me old fashioned on the subject of marrying paint and flesh. Either paint the Will Ferrell too or step up the CGI on the dinosaur.
And on the subject of that Dinosaurs for Hire game that was formerly a short-lived comic about 20th century dinosaur mercenaries: you missed an obvious one, Hollywood.
(Thanks, Zyclonis.)

Aug 26 2008 Hey, It's Enik from 'Land of the Lost'
Over at Collider they have the first look at Land of the Lost's Enik (left). CHUD has provided more details on the character:
A time traveling Altrusian lives in the Land of the Lost, a dude by the name of Enik, who guards a time portal (in the original series, at least). Enik could talk and wear clothes, unlike the degraded, devolved Sleestaks.
Wow. I'm a little weirded out right now because, besides the whole time traveling and guarding a time portal thing, this guy sounds exactly like me.
Jul 22 2008 'Step Brothers' Clip: Ferrell and Reilly Act Wacky!
Funny or Die has a new clip from Step Brothers in which, as you'd expect, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly act retarded for a few minutes. This time the man-child assault comes in the form of job interviews, in which the duo go together, wear tuxedos, and say stupid things. If your name isn't implicit in the phrase "the guys who brought you Talladega Nights," you will probably drift off through the white noise of your own groaning.

Jul 17 2008 Will Ferrell Playing 'Two-Face'! But Racist Instead of Disfigured!
Just the other day I sitting around with some friends, laughing about how lazy, savage, etc. minorities are--and, of course, discussing how awesome Dark Knight will be--when I suddenly realized, "Guys, why aren't there any movies about us, racists, that also make an exploitative reference to the current Batman craze?" As usual, Hollywood was one step ahead of me:
After years of toying with the project, Will Ferrell is getting serious about "Two Face," a Vince Gilligan-scripted drama-comedy for Sony Pictures Entertainment.Ferrell is attached to play the title character, a racist who, after a prank gone awry, develops a split personality.
Gee, I hope the split personality doesn't make him think he's other races, leading at first to many comic misunderstandings and racial caricatures but ultimately to character reform, because, man, that would be a really awful, predictable movie. Also, I hope the racist "prank" isn't lynching, because that's not really a prank, and I don't think we should start thinking of it as such.

Jul 2 2008 Sacha Baron Cohen/Will Ferrell Sherlock Holmes Comedy is, Frankly, Hilarious?
Columbia Pictures has announced plans for a comedy that will star Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell as (probably idiot versions of) Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Now, hold on, hold on. I know you're thinking this sounds like another typically-broad, pointless comedy "from the guys who brought us" prior Will Ferrell man-child outings. In other words, a bad idea. You couldn't be more wrong. It turns out the very notion of Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell playing Sherlock Holmes is enough to induce riotous laughter:
"Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh," said Col co-prexy Matt Tolmach. "Sacha and Will are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet, and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious."
I guess that is pretty funny, if you're a sadist.

May 28 2008 R-Rated 'Step Brothers' Trailer Includes Effin', Jeffin'
As is becoming the trend with raunchy comedies, there's a new R-rated trailer for Step Brothers. It's still just Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly pretending they're retarded, but now with F-words and camel penis references. Speaking as someone who has completely abandoned "Will Ferrell wacky stuff!" genre, I admit with some shame that I may have chuckled at a couple points. That's the closest I'm willing to come to an endorsement.

May 5 2008 'Anchorman 2' is Coming, For All Your Quoting Needs
Remembering when you looked forward to Will Ferrell movies? It's tough to recall with all the layers of sports spoofs covering your memories with novelty wigs, but there was a time, at least for me, that Anchorman was semi-revered, and news of a sequel would bring about something akin to a smile. I'm not really sure how I feel about one anymore, but co-writer/director Adam McKay has now confirmed to Collider that one is definitely planned.
Adam McKay: I'm looking to do another movie, I might do this other movie called Channel 3 Billion which is kind of this science fiction/Brazil type comedy. Then after that, Will and I are like let's do Anchorman 2…so you're talking like 2 years maybe we'll do it. But we're going to do it, for sure.Collider: That's like 100%?
Adam McKay: Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're dying to do it. Unless we can't get the cast together, which is always kind of a tricky thing. But, I think, with that cast we're all friends, so yeah, we want to do it.
I would have more to say on this, but I'm afraid I have to get to a Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian screening. Don't worry: I'll have a Bible on-hand to note all the intriguing parallels between Christ and Lion Neeson or whatever.

Mar 26 2008 Will Ferrell on 'Land of the Lost' Set--Being Zany!
Some people have been saying Will Ferrell's shtick is played out--that he just acts wacky while playing sports. Those people have obviously never seen these first shots from the set of Land of the Lost! Ferrell doesn't need the juxtaposition of sporting equipment to be funny; he can be just as hilarious standing beside cement elephants, eating Cheetos! Look at that face! Classic.

Feb 28 2008 'Step Brothers' Trailer Brings Back the Idiot-Man-Child Genre
The trailer to Step Brothers has arrived, with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly effectively reinventing the strange partnership of two semi-retarded man-children that keeps you half-watching Dumb and Dumber when it's on cable (assuming that replacing fart jokes with shirtless jokes counts as reinvention). Surprisingly, and despite Ferrell again hamming it up with the usual shtick--this time marrying the childish naiveté of Elf and the assholeishness of Anchorman--it looks reasonably amusing. Probably worth watching once it replaces Dumb and Dumber on cable. Thanks for the tip, Kyle.

Feb 21 2008 'Step Brothers' Poster Would Have Once Been Exciting
Does this image make anyone else feel as empty as it does me? As much as I genuinely like Ferrell, Reilly, and writer/director Adam McKay, I just can't force any enthusiasm for this thing. It's like staring at a Happy Meal: I know at one point I'd have been really excited for what awaited me, but now all I can see is blandness, uniformity, and what appears to be pubic hair.

Jan 8 2008 'Step Brothers' Pose at Sears Portrait Studio
Step Brothers takes the Adam McKay/Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly grouping of Talladega Nights and asks, What if we made fun of the affluent and spoiled, rather than the poor and trashy, with two competing stepbrothers? I'll try to reserve the necessary comparisons to Dumb and Dumber and pubic hair until the trailer.

Dec 26 2007 'Semi-Pro' R-Rated Trailer Pushes D-Sucking Envelope
This is yet another goofy sports movie, with Will Ferrell playing the standard wacky, funny-haired Will Ferrell character you've come to expect, but this R-rated trailer seems to be differentiating itself in an odd way: with a deluge of dick jokes (particularly in reference to the sucking thereof) that push beyond even the running gag of Dewey Cox. Truth be told, if you can move beyond the aching feeling that you've seen this movie several times, the presence of Will Arnett, Tim Meadows, Andy Richter, and Matt Walsh adding to Ferrell's overwhelming comedic presence might make this a high point for the genre.

Dec 10 2007 'Semi-Pro' Trailer Shows There is No Sport Will Ferrell Won't Have Funny Hair For
Yes, it's another goofy sports movie with Will Ferrell. I'm not sure if they throw a dart at a board of sporting events or just let him loose in an MC Sporting Goods until someone laughs, but this time they've gone with basketball. However, realizing that's not inherently wacky enough, it's semi-pro basketball in the '70s, and they somehow worked in wrestling a bear.
Like ex-sex, this looks to be enjoyable only in that it's safe and familiar, but will ultimately leave you sad that you fell for it yet again.
Oct 4 2007 'Semi-Pro' Teaser Uses Gross Body for Comedy
How many more movies are going to be marketed solely on the presence of Will Ferrell's doughy, sparsely-haired, near-nippleless torso? At least one more, says this teaser to Semi-Pro.
Aug 8 2007 Semi-Pro Poster Surprises No One

What follows is an I Watch Stuff exclusive transcript of the pitch to New Line for Semi-Pro, as pitched by a 22-year-old male from the University of Michigan wearing a Pabst Blue Ribbon box as a hat.
"All right, bros, this shit's gonna be hilarious. Me and Tommy came up with this shit last night at Kojak's while playing X-Box. OK, you guys know Will Ferrell, right? Dude's f***in' hilarious. You see Anchorman? Kojak can do that whole movie if you give him enough tequila. Funniest shit. Anyway, this movie's got Will Ferrell and he's playin' basketball, but it's funny 'cause he's not that good so he's just semi-pro. You get to see how he plays all shitty, like in Dodgeball. You guy seen Dodgeball? Shit's hilarious.
Anyhow, so he goes back to his shitty hometown to coach some other funny dudes--we were thinkin' Woody Harrelson, 'cause you know he smokes the reefer, that magician dude from Arrested Development, Andre 3000 'cause Hey Ya still rules, and a really hot Maura Tierney.
You guys seen Old School? It's definitely one of the best movies ever--shit's so hilarious, and Vaughn's my boy. We get the dude who wrote that to write this."
(At this point, another male, presumably "Tommy," adds to the pitch.)
"Hey, and I saw Ferrell on Conan the other night and he had this f***in' hilarious afro, like Kojak's got. ...Oh, just a friend of ours. Anyway, we should definitely do something with that 'fro. Shit's hilarious."
End transcript.
