Mar 20 2008 'Street Fighter' Finds Final Boss

With the unavailability of Raul Julia, the latest Street Fighter movie attempt has at last found an actor to fill the jackboots once occupied by The Man Who Would Be Gomez Addams. Disturbingly puffy-faced pretty-boy Neal McDonough, heretofore known to me as shirtless screaming blonde guy in Ravenous, is set to portray the villainous M. Bison to Kristin Kreuk's titular heroine in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. As you may recall, McDonough joins an already talent-heavy cast including the jock from American Pie, The Kingpin and a Black Eyed Pea. Look for audiences to whiningly complain McDonough is being f***ing cheap by using the 'Psycho Crusher' move over and over starting sometime next year.

Jul 25 2007 RIP, 'Lives of Others' Dude

Ulrich Muhe, star of The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen), is dead of stomach cancer today at the age of 54. It's a bummer, because I thought he gave one of the best performances in one of the best movies of last year.

On the plus side, at least he went out on top - starring in an Oscar-winning, bona-fide hit. Poor Raul Julia, his last film was Street Fighter. They even dedicated it to him. What a crappy epitaph. Let this be a lesson to you, Cuba Gooding.

Oct 30 2006 Chun-Li/"Street Fighter" Movie Combo

chun-li-street-fighter.jpgIn the early-to-mid '90s, I ruled the local arcade scene. With dark sunglasses and gloves with the fingers cut off, my chronic forehead acne barely visible by the glow of the machines, I held this kingdom (Pizza Kingdom: Home of the Henry the XVI-Incher) as my own. And as I was their king, I had chosen a queen. With actual girls largely uninterested in my arcade standing, "Street Fighter II" sat beside me at the throne. Now, just as I return to Pizza Kingdom every few weeks, desperately hoping someone remembers my former glory, Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom are praying someone will remember the popularity of "Street Fighter" as the two begin working on a new film focusing on the Chun-Li character, now best known as the subject of illustrated pornography.

Looking back at the character, I will always remember the fighting goddess's quick combinations that led many friends to say, "Would you stop doing that lightning kick bullshit? You're so f***ing cheap," and I can't help but get excited about this. Unfortunately, I also remember the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme movie, which ranks low even in the Van Damme library, and I continue getting ready for my weekly trip to Pizza Kingdom.
