Jul 21 2009 EXCLUSIVE First Sort-of Look at HBO's 'Boardwalk Empire'

boardwalk-empire.jpg

Martin Scorsese is shooting the pilot of Boardwalk Empire, the upcoming HBO series about the rise of Atlantic City as a gambling haven, and though you'll have to wait a bit longer to start Tivoing and lavishing it with Emmy Awards, my friend Todd got this shot of the filming going on in Park Slope, Brooklyn. If you can't tell, that's Steve Buscemi getting out of an old fashioney car! Look how the door opens, and where the steering wheel is! It's crazy!

I didn't say it was an exciting exclusive.

Oct 22 2007 Some Other Crap That Happened...

dumbledore-gay.jpg- Harry Potter author JK Rowling announced the character of Dumbledore was gay. In response, my roommate said, "No shit. The whole f***ing thing is gay." [Newsweek]

- Mark Wahlberg has stepped in to replace Ryan Gosling in Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones with just a day until shooting. Incidentally, this isn't the first time this has happened, with Wahlberg having previously stepped up when Gosling, at the last moment, abandoned his funky bunch. [Variety]

- Steve Buscemi and Daniel Bruehl have joined the cast of John Rabe, the true story of a German businessman who saved more than 200,000 Chinese during the Nanjin massacre. It sounds like a lot of people, but percentage-wise it's like saving an American's left arm. [Variety]

- James McAvoy is rumored to be up for the role of grunge legend Kurt Cobain in an upcoming biopic. The first screen test will be to see if he can show affection to something that looks anything remotely like Courtney Love. [All Headline News]

Jul 16 2007 Steve Buscemi Loves the Gays

I wash my hands 100 times a day because they smell like my mother!

Kinda weird lookin' Steve Buscemi recently made the interview rounds to promote Interview. Frankly, it looks like a bit of a snooze fest, but Buscemi was also asked about appearing in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, which some* have called anti-gay.

That's what I found really interesting about the film, that this is being explored in this broad, comedic, hopefully very commercial film, and what I experienced on set, it champions gay rights and gay marriage. So you know, I haven't seen the film yet, but I think Adam has touched on this before in his movies and I know him personally and he's not homophobic. I don't think that is any kind of message he wants to portray.

I haven't seen the trailers, and I'm sorry if that's what's seemingly coming through, because I don't believe the film is that way, and I would not have been involved in it if I felt like that's what it was doing. I feel like it's bringing this to the forefront, this whole issue of gay marriage, which I think is a non-issue.

Well said, Steve. Not nearly enough people are praising important films like I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, that spark debate on the real issues in this country. Where would the debate about rats cooking be without Ratatouille? The debate about surfing penguins without Surf's Up? The debate about assisted suicide without Tim Allen? If I were the academy, I would award Hollywood an Oscar for keepin' it real.

Jun 19 2007 Steve Buscemi Directs, is Weird Looking

I constantly burn my penis with red hot cigar butts!

Here's the trailer for the Interview, which stars Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller and was directed by Steve Buscemi. It appears to feature lots of falling down. But it must be really good because it's got a ton of those little caesar wreath graphic thingies with "Official Selection: Such-and-Such Film Festival" in it.

It reminds me of the trophy case at my mom's house with all the reminders of my accomplishments, like my pink "Participant: San Joaquin Pie Eating Contest" ribbon, and my "2nd Annual Kingsburg Grape Stomp" certificate. Mom says I'm her little champion!
