Oct 13 2008 See the RDJ and Jude Law as Fictional Sleuths

holmes-watson-rdj-law.jpg

Just Jared has put up some photos of Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Watson from the set of Guy Ritchie's new action take on the character. With all the ascots and suspenders, it's like a regular accessories seldom used in modern culture convention on that set! I don't know.

More shots here, of a Chaplin-esque Sherlock.

Sep 30 2008 It's Alice! (in Wonderland, on a Boat)

alice-wonderland-set-shots.jpg

Even though I think everyone has a pretty firm mental picture of what Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland will look like, INF Daily has some set shots to confirm your visions of semi-gothic formal wear. All I can think is that if this girl were any older, it would look like they were shooting a Stevie Nicks video.

Sep 22 2008 'Kick-Ass' Set Shots Look Accurate

kick-ass-set-shots.jpg

In Toronto, shooting on Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass adaptation has begun, and here's the first shot to emerge from the set. Over at /Film, they have a couple more, along with some of the comic panels this scene is based on. You'll be astounded at how accurately a real-life bird man crashing onto the top of a car recreates a drawing of a bird man crashing onto the top of a car.

Sep 2 2008 From the Set of 'Prince of Persia': The Set of 'Prince of Persia'

prince-of-persia-sets.jpg

Thanks to Greg for sending me these shots from the Prince of Persia set. It's so fitting that Jake Gyllenhaal will be making his transition to disrespected, bewigged action star in the same type of desert setting all-too-familiar to Brendan Fraser. When Jake gives his third delivery of the line, "I am the Prince of Persia!" and starts realizing his career is slipping through his fingers like grains of sand, it will be so much more poignant with the visual reference.

Jul 23 2008 'Crank 2' Will Have Giant Foam Statham Caricature

crank-2-statham-head.jpg

The LA Times has posted a series of on-set shots from Crank: High Voltage. From the looks of it, part of the film involves a massive caricature of Jason Statham's head. That's the only way to really "crank" things up enough to call them "high voltage," really--by including caricatures. That's why whenever I'm going to Times Square I'll just say, "I'm Hittin' up High Voltage," and whoever is around me will nod and say, "He must mean Time Square, with its many caricature artists, because only caricatures can 'crank' up a location enough to call it 'High Voltage.'"

UPDATE: A friend just pointed out the disturbing similarity between this and that horrifying Genesis music video.

Jun 5 2008 'Transformers 2' Set Shots (i.e. Photos of Helicopters, Explosions)

transformers-2-explosion.jpg

The sequel to the best movie of all movies released last year (according to MTV, so it's true) is currently shooting, a process that involves dressing a Pennsylvania town like it's China, helicopters, and blowing things up so that later, using computers, it will appear as if the helicopters are attacking an enormous cassette player that can turn into an automaton. Movie magic! Someone took pictures, and they're here.
