Nov 19 2009 Yet Another Movie Poster You Won't Believe Is Real (But It Is!)

crazy-on-the-outside-poster.jpg

Like Old Dogs, Crazy on the Outside is one of those rare, terminal illness-style films that shows up seemingly out of nowhere and is so shocking, so heinous, that I just can't believe--refuse to believe--no matter what the charts/posters say, can really be happening. How were there no symptoms, no articles in Variety? This is for real? Crazy on the Outside is incurable at this point in the marketing cycle? And Tim Allen DIRECTED it, too? I didn't even know such a thing could happen. It's going to take a while to come to terms with all this.

Also, how is J.K. Simmons on the poster but not Kelsey Grammer? Has Law & Order's Skoda somehow become a more popular psychiatrist than Frasier Crane? Oh, how the mighty have fallen, and been forced to star in half a season of Hank.

Aug 24 2009 'Youth in Revolt' Trailer: Two Teenage Michael Ceras for the Cost of One Adult Cera

youth-in-revolt-trailer.jpg

Michael Cera begs you to accept him as a teenager just one more time before calling Beverly Hills 90210 shenanigans on him. In Youth in Revolt, the perpetual teen play Nick Twisp, a 14-year-old so desperate to win the affections of the girl of his dreams that he creates a bad-ass French alter ego. It's basically a Steve Urkel/Stefan Urquelle situation, except genuinely funnier, and Twisp asks for cheese far less consistently than Urkel:

Feb 9 2009 'Observe and Report' Trailer, MF'ers

observe-and-report-trailer.jpg

Thanks to Andrew for sending in this red-band trailer for the Seth Rogen-as-a-security-guard dark comedy Observe and Report. It looks really good. Paul Blart coming out before this is like if Taxi Driver was released a few months after Queen Latifah's Taxi.

I especially like the inclusion of a apologizing-during-sex scene. Finally, someone making movie sex real.

Jan 30 2009 'Crossing Over' Poster -- Again, Not with Psychic John Edward

I stared at this poster for a full minute trying to figure out why Ray Liotta was listed but not pictured, though Joshua Jackson was pictured but not listed. Eventually I put it together.

Dec 10 2008 Trailer for the Movie Where Jessica Biel Strips

powder-blue-biel-stripper.jpg

Here's the trailer for Powder Blue, a movie notable because Jessica Biel takes it a step past I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and takes the bra off this time. It goes without saying, this thing is going to be huge at the box office. Just as soon as box office numbers find a way to include how many people have only watched a nude scene compilation on YouTube.

Nov 13 2008 'Crossing Over' Trailer (Not the 'Crossing Over' with Fake Psychic John Edward)

crossing-over-trailer.jpg

You can tell the guy who decided to remake this (from his own short) did so after a Traffic/Crash/Babel movie night. He saw how those got some awards, he cranked out this script with a bunch of people intertwined in immigration affairs, and was like, "Now who can I get for this that will really set it apart? Oh, I've got it: Harrison Ford. He's going to be so hot after Indiana Jones 4 is everyone's favorite movie."

Nov 12 2007 'Revolver' Trailer Sees Guy Ritchie Return to Cool, Edgy Form

revolved-statham-trailer.jpg

When your most famous, most popular movies were your fast-paced, "in-your-face" criminal stories starring Jason Statham (we'll say your other movie was a flop starring your transvestite wife), how do you set your new fast-paced, "in-your-face" criminal story starring Jason Statham apart?

If you're Guy Ritchie, the appropriate answer is "by giving the usually-bald Jason Statham the hair of Bam Margera, then making Ocean's Eleven with lesser celebrities, but still title it after firearms like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels."

In fairness, Revolver does look less obnoxiously hip than Snatch, and it must be smarter since it keeps drawing awkward chess analogies.
