Jan 23 2008 Will PTA Make Genre Horror Pretentious?

Bloody Disgusting reports that, according to a trusted source, There Will Be Blood director Paul Thomas Anderson is planning to make his next film a horror movie. Most likely a contemplative three-hour horror starring an ensemble cast (including Philip Seymour Hoffman, John C. Reilly, and Luis Guzman) who realize their tragic interconnectedness through a series of local murders, but a horror all the same. That sounds like a great departure, though. I'm going to be excited about this right up until Rob Zombie remakes it.

Nov 2 2007 'There Will Be Blood' Trailer Spews Dramatic Oil

If you're going to wait five years between projects, you'd better have a good excuse. And if it isn't that you were busy destroying your career, ending your marriage, endangering your children, and consuming huge amounts of snack food, the second best justification just might be filming Daniel Day-Lewis as a despicable oil tycoon.

Paul Thomas Anderson has done just that (the latter) with There Will Be Blood, and in this new trailer it looks phenomenal. Never in my memory has someone describing why they're a huge asshole looked so entertaining. Denis Leary should be worried.

All the movie geeks I know are already excited about There Will Be Blood just because it's a new Paul Thomas Anderson film, which pretty much guarantees some degree of pretentious success.

But what about the teenage girls? How best to draw in that coveted 10 to 17-year-old female market that has made the woman-boy Zac Efron an international star? Simple. Show them Tiger Beat's latest replacement for the aging JTT, There Will Be Blood star DLL DDL--Daniel Day-Lewis. What girl can resist that NASCAR mustache, that inviting wink, that pained grimace? With a poster like this, opening night is going to look like the inside of a Claire's.

Jun 18 2007 There Will Be Blood Teaser Trailer

You wouldn't know it from the lack of quick push-ins, but above is the teaser trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's latest, starring Daniel Day-Lewis. It seems pretty good, though I can't help but wonder about the gore content. I wish there was some indication as to whether or not bodily fluids would enter the picture at any point. When oil is involved, bloodshed can often follow; I guess we'll just have to see if that's the case this time. By which I mean whether or not there will be blood.
