Aug 27 2009 Cameron Crowe Made a Pearl Jam Video?
Yes, Cameron Crowe made a Pearl Jam video.
I'm not really sure his style of character-driven, writing-based filmmaking really translates all that well to the medium. Kind of unimpressive. Not exactly a Michel Gondry. Quite honestly, I think Eddie Vedder holding a boombox over his head playing the song probably would be a better video than this:
Apr 16 2009 David Lynch Directed a Moby Video
If you thought Moby abandoned tunes in favor of making tea and vegan food, you were dead wrong, buddy. He's abandoned that and is still making music, and David Lynch is directing animation to go along with it.
Lynch's video for the single "Shot in the Back of the Head" was just posted on Moby's blog (thanks, Cal), and while it doesn't exactly carry the director's signature, you can imagine how it might if it were live-action, and that was an actual floating head, and all the scribbling was plot confusion. Here:
Apr 14 2009 Michel Gondry Peddling New, Desirable Wares
Michel Gondry has a new DVD of music videos and crap he's done! Available only on his website, the collection promises three-hours of videos and behind-the-scenes documentation all unique to this release. If it's anything like his Director's Series release, this disc should be ideal for zoning out, watching for creative inspiration, playing in the background while talking with friends, and/or experiencing surreal entertainment in attention-deficit-sized 2-5 minute segments. A lot of the music videos can probably be found online with enough clicking on internet, but sometimes you just want to sit down and listen to a full album, not play DJ, you know? Metaphorically.
And while you're at the site, for an extra $20, you can also get a personalized portrait sketch from Gondry. I got one for buying his comic at MoCCA last year, and now I can say a genius director sees me as a weasel-faced monster. Recommended.
Oct 21 2008 'Madagascar 2' Thoroughly Enjoys 'Moving It'
I have sat through several sense-numbing Madagascar 2 trailers and sifted through several more of its gaudy posters, and pretty much every one of them feature the song "I Like to Move It" in one way or another. None of that in any way prepared me for this: a music video of Will.i.am's Madagascar 2-specific cover of "I Like to Move It"? This is too much. This is where I say, OK, you win. I'll say I like to move it too. Just stop.
But before I concede, just tell me, why, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, do you have this Moby Dick-level obsession with the "I Like to Move It" song? Why has Will.i.am decided to take a break from ill-conceived political anthems to cover the "I Like to Move It" song? And, most importantly, why does every depiction of a CGI animal have to be so inappropriately sexualized? Normally it's only mildly offensive, since the creatures appear anatomically genderless as they gyrate, but man, these chimps have PENISES. Just what is going on here?
Start your day with some retching:

Oct 1 2008 'Another Way to Die': This Bond Music Video
I hadn't even considered people might want to listen to Jack White and Alicia Keys' new Bond theme as a recreational activity outside of the film, but presumably that's the pitch with this music video for their song, Another Way to Die. Surprisingly, I didn't mind it this time, or at least not until it went on for an additional two minutes after I wanted it to stop. But I do like how Jack White is getting one of those weird mom hairstyles that aging former-hair band members always get. It says "I'm a rocker, but I'm also chic. And a mom."
Video past the cut.
