Apr 28 2009 Research Shows 'Wall Street 2' is Coming, Desired
Wall Street 2, the once-rumored sequel that only deserves to exist inside maybe a Ben Stiller Show sketch, is now official. Oliver Stone has signed on to once again direct and Shia LaBeouf is negotiating to play the new Wall Streeter. From EW:
The much-discussed Wall Street sequel is getting closer to launch, EW has learned. Michael Douglas will return as corporate raider Gordon Gekko, the role for which he won the 1987 Best Actor Oscar, and Oliver Stone will be back as the director of the followup to the movie that put the phrase "Greed is good" into the popular lexicon.Shia LaBeouf is in talks to play a young trader in Wall Street 2, which is set 20 years after the first installment. The film's plot will revolve around Gekko's life after he gets out of jail during the current economic climate.
"I think it's time to take another hard look at trading and the economy and what went wrong in the last few years," said Douglas Monday night during the premiere of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. "Everybody's talking about the economy and people are scrutinizing it. Whenever I mention Wall Street 2, everybody goes, 'Yeah. Interesting. I'd see that.'"
Can't argue with Michael Douglas. It's apparent he's done the market research to know this will work. He's both aware of the current economic situation and he's casually asked some people about it!
"So, party-goer, say I, Michael Douglas, was going to make another Wall Street--calling it Wall Street 2, we'll say..."
"OK..."
"Pretty good, right?"
"Oh... yeah, yeah, definitely. Almost painfully relevant. I mean, it sounds... interesting."
"Right, exactly. So you'd see it then?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Fantastic. I'm going to get in touch with that new Indiana Jones kid. He's great at making lackluster sequels to 20-year-old franchises."
(Thanks, Nick.)
Jan 29 2009 'Scrooged' Loses Best Modern Adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol' Crown
I just got a late submission to the Invent a Horrible Christmas Movie Contest from a couple months ago. Sadly, it's too late for it to win, but it's also too good not to share:
"Ghosts of Girlfriends Past - A modern re-imagining of A Christmas Carol in which Matthew McConaughey is visited by several ghosts that force him to review the numerous relationships of his past, present and future, teaching the consummate bachelor to change his philandering ways and settle down with his true love (Jennifer Garner)."
That entry comes from New Line Cinema, and they even made a trailer:

Sep 11 2008 Michael Douglas Playing Liberace, Who Apparenly May Have Been Gay!?
Steven Soderbergh has announced plans to direct a Liberace biopiic with Michael Douglas in the starring, glittering-caped role. From Variety:
Steven Soderbergh is in the early stages of developing a biopic about Liberace for Warner Bros., which he will direct. The filmmaker said he has drafted his "Traffic" star Michael Douglas to play the flamboyant pianist.
Soderbergh is in discussions with Matt Damon to play Scott Thorson, who sued Liberace in 1982 for $113 million in palimony, claiming he was the entertainer’s companion for five years. Even though Liberace never wavered from career-long denials that he was gay, Thorson reportedly settled for $95,000 in 1986.
Oh man, how is this going to affect the Nicolas Cage-starring, Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg-written Liberace picture we heard about in '96 '06? At the time I didn't really care about it, but now that I know Seltzer and Friedberg did Meet the Spartans/Disaster Movie/Other Terrible Pseudo-Parody Movies, I really want to see how amazingly offensive that could be. And how will it affect when Bugs Bunny plays him?
May 7 2007 Go Watch Wall Street 2 You Broke P****

"Grab the bull by the balls, kid."
Get those gun fingaz ready, I-bankers! Just as that Boiler Room DVD started collecting dust comes the news that Fox has signed deals with the original producer and writer of Wall Street for a sequel.
Stephen Schiff's script, Money Never Sleeps, will follow Gordon Gekko's release from jail and entry into the exciting world of hedge funds. The project is being set-up as a potential starring vehicle for Michael Douglas. Oliver Stone is not expected to return as director.Phew, for a minute there, I was worried the next generation of white-collar criminals would grow up without a morally bankrupt anti-hero to worship. Gordon Gekko is like Scarface for yuppies.
On a serious note, what the hell kind of WASP name is "Gekko"?
