Oct 15 2009 'Edge of Darkness' Trailer: Never Kidnap/Murder Mel Gibson's Children
Things you'll be glad you get to hear Mel Gibson say with a questionably Boston accent in the trailer for the new cop-investigating-his-daughter's-government-tied-murder thriller, Edge of Darkness:
- "Welcome to hell!"
- "I'm the guy with nothin' to lose!"
- "Fasten your seatbelt!"
- "You had better decide whether you're hangin' on the cross... or bangin' in the nails!"
Things you'll be disappointed Mel Gibson does not say at all, even though he obviously should:
- "Give me back my daughter!!!"
See for yourself:

Sep 29 2009 Mel Gibson Running with a Beaver Puppet on His Hand
Splash News has the first shots of Mel Gibson on the set of The Beaver the Jodie Foster-directed film currently shooting in New York. Now Gibson only has to run around shouting with three more different mammals on his hand and the apology process for all those anti-gay and anti-Semitic remarks will be complete.

Jul 10 2009 'Maverick' Duo Reteaming for Sexual Innuendo-Titled Film
Once again flexing the muscle she used in Little Man Tate, Home for the Holidays, and an episode of Tales from the Darkside, Jodie Foster will be directing The Beaver, the much-hyped, high-concept script about a man who wears a beaver puppet for comfort, with Mel Gibson starring. From Variety:
Mel Gibson will star in "The Beaver" for director Jodie Foster. The script, written by Kyle Killen, topped the Blacklist in December.
Gibson will play a depressed man who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. On top of helming, Foster will play the role of the man’s wife.
Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson together in a movie and it's not for the Maverick sequel that was virtually promised to the legions of fans at the conclusion of the first film? Mom, Dad: don't go out for dinner together if you aren't getting re-married. It gives us kids false hopes.
Oct 14 2008 Phew! 'Lethal Weapon' No Longer a Threat
Mel Gibson has reportedly decided to spare us all from hearing the words "Now I'm REALLY getting to old for this shit!" and has walked away from plans for a fifth Lethal Weapon. From Geoff Boucher's LA Times blog:
Richard Donner, who directed and produced all four "Lethal Weapon" films but found himself excluded from the recent plans to make a fifth, now says that his old friend Mel Gibson has walked away from the franchise revival."Mel turned it down," Donner said. "I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn't involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be the kind of thing he does? It sure would be."
You'd like to think he turned it down because you weren't involved, Richard Donner? I'd like to think it's because it's LETHAL WEAPON 5, and he somehow has a quality (alcoholism?) that allows him to not beat things to death like Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone. But no, sadly, Donner's probably right. Except that it was probably equal parts Donner's non-involvement and Danny Glover's commitment to another Saw movie, which is shit he's still not quite too old for.
Sep 8 2008 De Niro Leaves 'Edge of Darkness', Presumably Now in Darkness
Here's a tip: if you're ever directing a Robert De Niro movie, do not try to get this really awesome shot where you capture De Niro, the Boston skyline, and a golf bunker all in the frame at once. I know you're thinking, "But that's an amazing shot, symbolic of how the weight of city life can pull a man down and get him stuck, like in a sand trap," but Robert De Niro hates that shot, and he will leave the production if you try to get this amazing shot. Or at least that's what I got out of this story:
Just days after he arrived in Massachusetts to begin filming scenes for Edge of Darkness, Robert De Niro has quit the film. "Sometimes things don't work out; it's called creative differences," a spokesman for the actor told Daily Variety. Earlier this week the Boston Herald reported that De Niro had been spotted filming scenes at the 15th hole of the Gannon Golf Club while director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) attempted to set up a shot that would show the actor, a sand trap and the Boston skyline in the shot.
This would have been the first team-up between Mel Gibson and Robert De Niro, your favorite actor and your favorite drunk anti-semite who was in Lethal Weapon. I guess some things are just too beautiful to live.
