Nov 3 2009 Owen Wilson Providing Marmaduke's Voice in 'Marmaduke'
Because Marmaduke being a terrible, giant asshole dog who ruins every life he touches isn't enough to differentiate him from Beethoven or other large dogs not born with the ability for speech. He has to talk, also:
Wilson's boarding is the last piece of the puzzle for the live-action/CG movie, which has shades of Fox's surprise smash "Marley & Me" and follows a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke, a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes.In adapting the strip created in 1954 by Brad Anderson and Phil Leeming, the script by Tim Rasmussen and Vince Di Meglio sees Marmaduke navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace.
So the movie is sort of The Karate Kid meets talking dog race wars? Man oh man. If Marmaduke creator Brad Anderson knew what moving pictures were, and if his mind weren't an 85-year-old confused mess that can only understand things in terms of how many or few dogs are causing mischief, he would be so pissed that his abhorrent comic were being turned into something that's repulsive for entirely different reasons.
Sep 29 2009 Method Discovered To Make 'Marmaduke' Movie Worse
Christ, the dogs are going to talk, too?
To date, only Judy Greer had been mentioned to play Debbie Winslow in the movie, while Lee Pace from "Pushing Daisies" is playing Phil Winslow, but a small throwaway piece in Variety about Anjelah Johnson joining the cast, mentioned some of the voice cast and with a little more searching around, we found a very long list of those involved with providing voices for various animated characters in the movie, none of whom we know anything about except for their names:Amanda Seyfried voices "Mazie," Jeremy Piven is "Bosco," Ron Perlman plays "Chupadogra," Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka "McLovin") is "Guiseppe," while Black Eyed Peas singer Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson is "Jezebel." Steve Coogan voices "Raisin," George Lopez is "Carlos" and Damon Wayans Jr. provides the voice for "Thunder."
AND Fergie is a voice? Does this mean there's also an auto-tuned dog? You would think any attempt at a Marmaduke movie would start at the bottom of dignity's well, but it turns out there was a little lower to drop.
Though, I have to admit, back in the '80s, Fergie was pretty good at playing the victim of clown murder:

Aug 21 2009 Judy Greer Getting Marmaduked
Think how much funnier the above image would be if the dog were really huge! Can you imagine how riotous that would be, with an abnormally large breed of dog? Well, soon you won't have to imagine; that will soon be a partially-computer-generated reality you can choose to experience! Judy Greer, who you may remember repeatedly flashing her breasts in Arrested Development, has signed on to co-star as the nondescript owner-lady in Fox's live-action/CGI adaptation of Marmaduke.
With David Cross taking a part in Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Will Arnett recently appearing in G-Force, it seems like maybe wacky CGI animal movies are an inevitable course for AD alumni. Only a matter of time before we'll probably find Jeffrey Tambor in Heathcliff and Tony Hale in Hong Kong Phooey. Bluth matriarch Jessica Walter really dodged a bullet by somehow not being cast as "old rich lady who owns a chihuahua" in Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
Mar 6 2009 Bonus Marmaduke!
Following today's revelation that Marmaduke once co-existed alongside Heathcliff, my friend Kevin did some research into this cartoon menagerie (searched on YouTube) and found some clips I think you should look at. Man, what a miserable thing it is. All the painfulness of a Marmaduke comic but with the added dimension of time. But on the plus side, I think Scatman Crothers might sing the theme song:
Mar 6 2009 Marmaduke Coming to Theaters--If He'll Ever Get Off His Owner's Lap!
Hold on to your fucking huge pets! Fox is bringing Marmaduke, Brad Anderson's exceedingly lazy, unbearable, deservedly ridiculed comic about a giant dog repeatedly doing the same series of ten gags, to the big screen! And the fact that the comic is universally loathed, and that Beethoven was already Marmaduke several times over, isn't going to stop them:
The studio has signed director Tom Dey to develop a big-screen adaptation of "Marmaduke." Brad Anderson created the decades-running newspaper comic strip, about a mischievous Great Dane who lives with the Winslow family, in 1954. The big dog then appeared in several animated episodes of "Heathcliff" and "Garfield and Friends."The studio declined comment on any specifics for the feature because the project is in the early stages of development.
It hasn't been decided whether "Marmaduke" will be live-action, animated or a mutt.
Marmaduke appeared in episodes of Heathcliff and Garfield and Friends? I didn't realize he was the funny page's equivalent of Rob Schneider.
Anyway, if there's anything positive to be taken from this, it's that at least we're one step closer to a Ziggy movie. Ziggy is also a terrible comic, but I look forward to seeing how his smooth, bulbous, pantsless form would translate to CGI. I imagine it being sort of like Paul Giamatti born from a nightmare.
(Thanks, Manny.)
