Jul 9 2009 'Heavy Petting': Another Great Dog Romance
I don't want to get in the habit of posting about two-year-old movies, but IWS reader Randy sent in the poster and DVD art for Heavy Petting--a 2007 romantic comedy starring Watchmen's Malin Akerman--and with my love for terrible, dogs-doing-human-things movies, they were too ridiculous to ignore.
I love that, after the first terrible poster, the only ideas for revisions were dropping the pun, making everyone orange, and blatantly replacing the dog's head with another dog head with a crazier tongue--"and make sure this dog is making uncomfortable eye contact with the audience as it paws at the woman's breasts!"
The Amazon summary is really good too:
When Charlie (Brendan Hines) meets Daphne (Malin Akerman), the girl of his dreams, he never expects he’ll have to battle past her pet dog "Babydoll" to win her heart. Just when it seems he can’t beat the beast, and all is lost, something unexpected happens. Charlie begins to fall in love with the dog himself, realizing he never really needed a girlfriend in the first place. Now, in order to keep hanging out with "man’s best friend," Charlie must scramble to keep his relationship with Daphne going at all costs, or risk losing them both.
He falls in love with the dog! I think I've just found the perfect double-feature complement for Marley & Me night (every Wednesday)!
Jul 1 2009 'Couples Retreat' Trailer: Marriage! You Know What I'm Sayin'?
I can still remember my friend, the one with the "Vegas, Baby, Vegas!" poster positioned proudly above his bed, rushing into my dorm room some time in 2001 to announce the existence of Jon Favreau's Made: "Dude, it's like Swingers, but with gangster shit!" Though the film would later prove itself less mind-blowing that I'd hoped, the idea of any sort of Swingers continuation was pretty great at that point in my life. It wasn't a Star Wars prequel, but it was something.
So today, let me be your college friend announcing the next somewhat disappointing pseudo-sequel to Swingers, Couples Retreat: Dudes, it's like Swingers! Except now they're middle-aged and in depressing, loveless marriages filled with countless infidelities! And they're friends with Jason Bateman:

Dec 31 2008 'Watchmen' Featurette: Hey, It's Moloch!
Seeing that it might be a bit longer than originally anticipated before you get to see that Watchmen movie everyone is talking about, curb your desire with this new footage-filled featurette. With Star Trek and this (hopefully) coming out in the coming months, 2009 is shaping up to be a big year for prosthetic pointed ears in films that can't possibly live up to their hype.

Dec 10 2008 That Old 'Watchmen' Trailer from the Comic Convention
The Watchmen footage shown at the San Diego Comic Convention has finally been made a feature of the internet. iTunes is now hosting the trailer, which you can access by clicking here (via AICN) or searching "watchmen" in the iTunes program. If you go with the latter option, be careful to click the movie Watchmen and don't accidentally click The Prize Fighter Inferno's "Who Watched the Watchmen" song from their album My Brother's Blood Machine. That is a song you do not want to hear.
Nov 14 2008 New 'Watchmen' Trailer!
This Watchmen trailer is going to knock you on your nerdy ass. It will knock your books out of your arms, shove you in a locker, and make you do its homework, but you'll still pathetically ask it to come to your birthday party:
Nov 11 2008 Another 'Watchmen' Poster Deluge
Six new posters for Watchmen have been spread to various media outlets, each poster depicting a character from the film standing or squatting near a quote. Above, from the LA Times, is the Comedian lighting his cigar with a flamethrower--the third coolest way to light a cigar after dragon's flame and hellfire. Below the cut: the remaining five!
Nov 6 2008 'Watchmen' Video Diary: Grrrl Power Edition
Girls Kick Ass, the latest production diary from the set of Watchmen, has gone online at MySpace. As you might expect, it focuses on the stars that have ladyparts (Carla Gugino, Malin Akerman), the training they went through, and the relationship between their characters. Girls can be trained to throw punches too, dudes! Here's the proof!
If you only sit at your desk and discreetly masturbate to one production diary this year, make it this one:
