Looks like my family tree! Hahahahahahah!

Because my family has a long, proud history of bovid bestiality inexplicably resulting in hoofed children.

Who's responsible for this? I think it must be the graphic designer for Taco Bell.

Aug 28 2009 'Men Who Stare at Goats' Trailer: Coen Brothers Lite

men-who-stare-at-goats-trailer.jpg

This trailer for Men Who Stare at Goats is basically Diet Coen Brothers. I'm not going to say it will completely fulfill you in the same way a refreshing Coen Brothers will, but I think you'll detect enough of that distinctly Coen flavor in Grant Heslov's comedy--especially with a mustached George Clooney and long-haired, druggie Jeff Bridges--that it should at least tide you over until you can get the real deal:

Apr 1 2009 Kevin Spacey Starring in New Indie Comedy Not as Exciting as It Would Be in 1999

kevin-spacey.jpg

In the years since the impressive acting streak of The Usual Suspects, Se7en, L.A. Confidential, and American Beauty, Kevin Spacey has done very little to continue deserving the praise I bestowed upon him in high school, "Like everything this dude is in rules." I mean, the actor has had his share of respectable roles, but now they're consistently balanced with enough K-Paxes, 21's, Lives of David Gales, and showy song performances that, for me at least, he's lost a lot of his late '90s "everything this dude is in rules" cred. Needless to say, I'm genuinely wishing the best for this new indie comedy he's producing and starring in, except one element sort of worries me:

Kevin Spacey will star in and produce the indie comedy "Father of Invention." Trent Cooper ("Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector") will direct from a script he penned with Jonathan Krane and Nichole Beattie.

Story centers on a humble inventor-turned-egomaniacal billionaire who loses it all when one of his inventions goes horribly awry. After eight years in federal prison, he returns bankrupt, homeless and determined to rebuild his reputation and fortune.

Did you catch the part where it says the director of Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector is involved? That's the part I was talking about. That's the yikes moment. I realize everyone has to make a living as they work their way up the ladder, and it was probably impossible for any director to make a Larry Cable Guy movie watchable, but phew, that is a blemish on the record. Trent Cooper is not the car I'd pick to drive me to success town.

Nov 19 2007 '21' Trailer Reveals Las Vegas is Really Crazy

21-trailer-spacey.jpg

With the upcoming What Happens in Vegas..., the Friends episode where they all go to Vegas, the TV show Las Vegas, the commercials touting that events happening in Vegas don't count towards your regular morality, and countless other glamorous depictions of the "Sin City," I'm getting a bit bored with the concept of "Woo! Look at all the crazy shit that happens in Vegas!"

21, the semi-true story of MIT students counting cards and making millions under the tutelage of a professor, looks to add little to the genre, and even leaves out the requisite shotgun wedding, seating it one crucial element below The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas. I think they'd have been better off sticking closer to the real-life story instead of a film school student's vision of Good Will Hunting-meets-Ocean's Thirteen.

Trailer below the cut.

Jul 10 2007 Fred Claus Teaser Trailer

Vaughn_FredClaus.jpg
Every time Vince Vaughn grows an undereye bag, an angel gets its wings.

Watching the Fred Claus trailer, it's hard for me not to do a balancing act, like some sort of well-hung Lady Justice with 20/20 vision (thanks, LASIK). On one side you've got Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Spacey, the director of Wedding Crashers, and an apparent lack of Tim Allen. On the other, you've got... a Christmas movie. With elves. And people falling down in the trailer.

To bash it or not to bash it, which way will the scale swing? At tough times like these, I always turn to Onanism, my only true friend.
