Jan 30 2009 Gulliver's Traveling Effing Up Iron Man
Fox is in talks with Jason Segel and Emily Blunt to join Jack Black in their adaptation of Gulliver's Travels. That's all well and good--we've all wanted to physically restrain Jack Black and one point or another, but most of us aren't given the chance to do it as a Lilliputian--except it's reportedly causing scheduling conflicts with her role in Iron Man 2:
Twentieth Century Fox is negotiating with Emily Blunt and Jason Segel to join Jack Black in "Gulliver's Travels," the Rob Letterman-directed reimagining of the classic Jonathan Swift tale.Blunt had already been offered the role of Black Widow in "Iron Man 2," but that may not be an option because of "Gulliver's Travels." Fox holds an option on the actress that was part of her deal when she co-starred in "The Devil Wears Prada," and the studio may invoke it to see that she takes part in the giant tale.
While Blunt's reps are still trying to work out scheduling so she can play both roles, it will be an uphill battle because of scheduling overlap. "Gulliver's Travels" will shoot in the U.K. in late March; "Iron Man 2" is expected to begin lensing in early April in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
If only she could be two places at once! It's times like these you really realize how, for all the talk about the wonders of the future, we still haven't done shit with hologram clones.

Jan 30 2009 'I Love You, Man' Recruitment Poster
First I thought I liked the stylish minimalism of this poster, but now I'm starting to think I just like the familiarity of Jason Segel having my 7th grade haircut. I wonder if his character is also really into Warcraft 2.

Jan 19 2009 'I Love You, Man' RED-BAND-DIRTYTIME Trailer
Speaking of J.K. Simmons in things: here's the new trailer for I Love You, Man, this time R-rated--meaning more references to putting mouths in swimsuit sections!

Dec 17 2008 Nice Try, 'I Love You, Man' Trailer
Be careful watching this trailer: it's deceptive. You see Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Rashida Jones, Thomas Lennon, and J.K. Simmons reprising his Juno role of "Dad", and you naturally start to believe this should at least be reasonably funny. But once you look back and think about it again, it's just another broad, high concept comedy that's only tolerable because it's somehow not starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as the budding friendship. I feel like I'm a dog and this movie is a pill wrapped in cheese the producers are trying to coax down my throat. Luckily I caught that hint of medicine just before I was going to swallow, so they'll be finding this buried in a couch cushion in a few months.
Nov 13 2008 Popular Actor/Comedians Providing Voices to CGI Family Comedy
Sorry, trained voice actors, an all-celebrity roster led by Steve Carell is once again dominating the cast of a new animated film called Despicable Me:
Illumination Entertainment topper Chris Meledandri has kicked off his Universal Pictures-based family film unit with "Despicable Me," a 3-D CG-animated film that has Steve Carell voicing the title character.Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement ("Flight of the Conchords"), Jack McBrayer ("30 Rock") and Julie Andrews are providing the other lead voices. The film will be released in 2010.
Carell's title character is a deplorable man known as Groo who masterminds the mother of all heists when he plots to steal the moon. Egged on by an evil mother (Andrews), Groo finds one obstacle in his way: a trio of orphan girls who temporarily come under his care and won't leave.
I'm normally pretty skeptical about any computer-animated family comedy that isn't a Pixar, but I'll give this a pass for now because:
- This is a really good cast of mostly genuinely funny people, not Angelina Jolies.
- It isn't a sequel.
- I like the plan of stealing the moon. It's like Chairface Chippendale's plan to carve his name in the moon, but even more grandiose. How do you steal the moon? I'm willing to find out for now.
But so help me, first mention of anything equivalent to liking to "move it" and I'm done.

Mar 13 2008 Apatow's Cohorts Making Muppet Movie
Like Peeps or reunion concerts, the Muppets are one of those things that seem really appealing until I actually have a taste. I even went so far as to buy The Muppet Show first season DVD over a year ago, but have yet to come anywhere near finishing them. Every time I pry open Kermit's rectangular torso and pop in the disc, I'm reminded that, despite the endearing characters, there's a limited amount of enjoyment I can derive from a crooning Sandy Duncan. At that point, I have to face the facts: as much as I love The Muppet Show, it really could have used some better writers (and let's not even get into the quality of some of the Muppet films).
Well, it turns out my hope for improved Muppetry may be become a reality, with news that Forgetting Sarah Marshall writer/star Jason Segel and director Nick Stoller have signed on to make a new film with the popular felt cast. And judging by the quality of the trailers for the duo's upcoming comedy, I'd say Segel and Stoller's Muppet film have a good chance at revitalizing the franchise. Or at least make something as good as this Candice Bergen Muppet Show I'm trying to push through.
Feb 5 2008 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' Dirty Stuff Trailer
I'm not a Judd-Apatow-as-Possible-Comedy-God believer, but as I've said before, Forgetting Sarah Marshall looks really good, and this R-rated trailer makes it look even better in that special way only athletic intercourse and ass-shots can.
Watch it here, but only away from bosses and the elderly.
Dec 20 2007 More Apatow Funny With 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' Trailer
Dare I say, Judd Apatow has done it again? In the tradition of Knocked Up and Superbad, Apatow and his crew look to have created yet another comedy full of goofy situations and characters that still remain true-to-life enough to stay believable and absolutely relatable. With both Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Pineapple Express coming in the next year, it's nearly forgivable that he's also involved in the Zohan thing. At least until I'm exposed to it again.
