Oct 7 2009 New 'Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' Trailer Still Leaves 'Imaginarium' Undefined

imaginarium-doctor-parn.jpg

Here's the new Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus trailer, in all its final-Heath-Ledger-performance, phallic-nosed, multiple-actored glory. If this doesn't make you want to see it, you clearly have an issue with alternately carnivalesque and candy-lacquered surreality making your eyes lose their eye-minds:

Aug 11 2009 'Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus' Trailer a Treat for the Eyes (Unless You're Colorblind)

imaginarium-trailer-intl.jpg

If you're one of the many who heard about Heath Ledger's final film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and thought, "I have no idea what an imaginarium is; a gymnasium where the mini-tramps are clouds and the dodgeballs are dreams?", you're in luck. This new trailer should explain everything. Actually, no; it won't really explain that much at all. I still have no idea what an imaginarium is. But if I had to guess from this trailer, I'd say it's wherever you go when you're on a lot of acid:

Jul 7 2008 More Chances to Get Completely Sick of 'The Dark Knight' Before Its Release

dark-knight-wizard-world.jpg

The Dark Knight's July 18 release is now less than two weeks away. Can you feel your life's relevance winding down? If not, try feeling for it again after watching two more previews. Under the cut, the trailer shown at Wizard World Chicago and an extended look at the Joker dinner party hold-up scene. Watching the latter will grant you the ability to use the bathroom or get a popcorn refill when that scene comes up in the theater, making those around you jealous and annoyed. (Thanks, David.)

Jul 1 2008 Another New 'Dark Knight' Trailer Creates Pizza-tainment

dark-knight-dominos.jpg

Well, it's 2008, and I worry it's beginning to look like we may never find a way to embed data in the seasonings of a pizza crust, allowing for a DVD you can watch and later enjoy as a personal snack (PVDs). But all hope is not lost! Pizza and entertainment have found different way to merge into one cheesy, obesity-inducing form: pizza franchise-exclusive trailers! You may remember Papa John's recently worked out a trailer deal with The Mummy 3, forever connecting Brendan Fraser's Boy Meets World hair and pepperoni; now Domino's has a similar promotion with The Dark Knight, and there's a new resulting trailer with some new footage. It's pretty good if you ignore that Joker's voice-over is pieced together like it's from a hastily-edited reality show.

Jun 27 2008 Warner Bros. Promoting a Batman Movie with Photographs

dark-knight-batman-cuts.jpg

I've followed the commercials, the trailers, the production photos, the interviews, a viral campaign on par with the Navy, but I'm still not sure if I want to see what might be the most hyped movie in history--a film that includes the final completed role of a talented young actor whose dark performance as one of comics' most notorious villains is already being hailed as Oscar-worthy. I mean, will Batman have some kind of Bat-arm-brace-metal-cutter thing or is just going to be more of the same old Batarang bullshit? Oh, he does have that? I guess I'm game then.

A thousand new Dark Knight photos here. Spoiler: print them and treat them like a flipbook for the full movie.

Jun 13 2008 New 'Dark Knight' Trailer is Rad, Contraband

dark-knight-trailer-comcast.jpg

I know the market for Dark Knight media has become a bit over-saturated (that point came around the time I stooped to posted a Batman milk ad), but a new trailer to the much-anticipated sequel just debuted on Comcast's On-Demand service and illicitly found its way online, so I think that justifies a post. In exchange for your tolerance, I'll stop work on my Dark Knight Fruit Snack exposé, even thought it was going to blow some minds.

Jun 6 2008 'The Dark Knight' Chooses Cable Over Satellite (in Featurettes!)

dark-knight-comcast.jpg

Comcast has hit some dire straits. How can they compete against the powerhouse of advertising that is the IO Digital Cable Reggaeton Commercial, an ad that continues to resonate even now that it's been usurped by a far less catchy replacement? With Batman shit, of course! The cable giant has set up a Flash-heavy Dark Knight page with two featurettes that contain some new footage. You'll learn how the Joker gang masks were made, why sections of the film were shot in IMAX, and why you should definitely switch to Comcast. Because Comcast will probably eventually show Dark Knight on one of its numerous cable stations?

If this doesn't give maladjusted youths an excuse to wear long, greasy hair and a trenchcoat, I don't know what will.

May 5 2008 The Final 'Dark Knight' Trailer, Now in Reasonable Quality!

dark-knight-final-trailer.jpg

We've already discussed the merits of the latest Dark Knight trailer in several other posts about the questionably-watchable versions we've seen of it, so let's just watch this thing. Over and over again. Because it looks really good. And yes, that is Two-Face.

Apr 30 2008 Joker Makes a Meta-Graffiti 'Dork Knight' Trailer

dark-knight-dork-knight.jpg

Those who participated in the latest leg of the Dark Knight viral marketing trivia contest thing got more than just the opportunity to see a movie trailer a week early: one lucky audience member in each city got a 35mm print of the trailer to take home! But, wouldn't you know it, the Joker has defaced the prints, scrawling clown makeup on the stars, adding a lightsaber, and retitling the film "The Dork Knight." For being an insane criminal mastermind, the Joker has a very tame sense of humor. Couldn't he have at least taken it to subway graffiti/Perez Hilton level and drawn a penis near Christian Bale's mouth? Enjoy the post-modern revelation that Joker is aware of his own summer blockbuster, under the cut.

Apr 29 2008 Bootleg 'Dark Knight' Trailer, For Those Who Think Video Quality is For Suckers

dark-knight-trailer.jpg

Hurry and get Batmania! I've been getting a few links overnight and this morning to bootleg video of the new Dark Knight trailer that was shown to the elite few who followed all the latest viral marketing clues (the same trailer I reported from the NYCC). Sadly, YouTube kowtowed to the studios, and the grainy clips were always removed before I could post one (my own sloth and ineptitude may have also played a role in missing them). Anyway, the plucky crew at JoBlo have taken it upon themselves to host it for as long as possible. Posthaste, my friends--watch this blurry s.o.b. or risk waiting until the official Sunday release! I have mounted it below the cut.

Apr 28 2008 A Couple 'Dark Knight' Thingies

dark-knight-half-faces.jpg

1. Omelete has five new Dark Knight international posters, including the one above. This one actually combines three of the individual character posters into a single unit, so really you've only got one left after this, and it's of the Bat-Motorcycle-Thing.

2. Thanks to Maggie for pointing out that the Dark Knight viral site Why So Serious? has updated with city-specific countdown clocks if you click the defaced presidential portraits. I have no idea what will happen in said cities when the clock runs out (my heart exploding from excitement?!), but the buzz for this film is such that the vague announcement that "something will happen!" is still newsworthy.

Apr 2 2008 Spoilerish New Joker Shots (No, Not This One)

IMAGES REMOVED AT REQUEST OF WARNER BROS.

The folks over at Cinematical have posted (and quickly retracted) some previously unseen, probably leaked shots from The Dark Knight. Thankfully, being a prompt and thorough content thief, I quickly grabbed them all before they were pulled, and have posted them below the cut in a series I'm calling "spoilerish Joker costume shots". Because they show the Joker dressed as stuff, and will probably spoil things for you Bat-purists.

If you decide to look, you might as well also read the spy report from last August, which provides some spoiler-filled context for the third shot.

Jan 30 2008 Will 'Parnassus' Continue Through CGI and Internets?

parnassus-cancelled-ledger.jpg

Though he seems unclear on the details, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus actor Christopher Plummer has spoken out on how director Terry Gilliam may still try to save Heath Ledger's final performance:

[Gilliam is] trying to work out at this moment how to continue on. Fortunately, because the film deals with magic, there is a way, perhaps, of turning Heath into other people and then, using stills and I think they call it CGI…

It's clear by his grasp of the term CGI that Plummer has no idea of the specifics of this, and may actually be referring to the Internet, mp3s, or the auto-gyro. But if it's true, I'm curious if they're considering "morphing" him into other actors (like the rumored Johnny Depp) to finish the character's scenes or if it's more along the lines of animating a CGI-Ledger for half the film. I hope the latter, because, as experience has taught us, it's not at all creepy when you see a posthumous performance given through lifeless, computer-generated eyes.

Jan 23 2008 'Parnassus' Production Halted After Star's Death

parnassus-cancelled-ledger.jpg

I don't want to harp on the Heath Ledger issue too much, but, unsurprisingly, production has halted on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and the crew has reportedly been sent home. Ledger had been filming the picture with Terry Gilliam, likely giving the director yet another unfinished production on his resumé.

Adding another level to Gilliam's curse of incompletion, it seems that after finding himself unable to recall which 7-letter TV detective owned a cockatoo, he will be unable to finish yesterday's USA Today crossword.

Jan 22 2008 Heath Ledger Found Dead

heath-ledger-found-dead.jpg

According to several news sources, Heath Ledger has been found dead in SoHo this afternoon, pills near the bed the likely cause thus far. The 28-year-old actor was already winning praised for his role in the eagerly-awaited Batman sequel, and was shooting The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus with Terry Gilliam. This is incredibly tragic, and makes me feel really, really bad about this.

Jan 14 2008 Look Into the Horrifying, Ledger-Filled Mask of 'Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus'

imaginarium-parnassus-ledge.jpg

Just Jared has got some new shots of Heath Ledger from Terry Gilliam's latest, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, also known as Nightmares I Had After Seeing 'Eyes Wide Shut'. The story follows "the leader of a traveling theater troupe who, through a deal with the Devil, takes audience members through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations.” Knowing Gilliam, at least one person's imagination is bound to involve some dwarfs.

Dec 19 2007 Don't Tell Mom, But Here's Something Secret to Watch...

It's the first six, horribly bootlegged minutes of that movie with the bat character and clown character! Enjoy before "the man" catches wind of it.

Thanks for the tip, Oscar.

Dec 17 2007 'The Dark Knight' Trailer is All We Hoped For

dark-knight-trailer.jpg

As much as I hate lavishing affection on anything that won't later reject me, I have to say, the finally-released trailed to The Dark Knight looks pretty impressive. Heath Ledger appears to be giving us the psychotic Batman antagonist we all prayed for as Arnold Schwartzenegger assaulted us with one-line puns about freezing. Even as Nolan took a lot of liberties with the look, this feels more like the Joker than anything I've seen on screen. It's kind of chilling, really. If I didn't know it was Ledger, I don't know if I could've figured it out, which should hopefully dissuade crafty editors from making an inevitable Brokeback Mountain parody trailer.

My only confusion comes from the line that Joker's clothes are all custom. Since when are home-made clothes sinister? I remember a kid in elementary school having home-made clothes, and it seems like the sentiment was more along the lines of extremely lame. Though I guess I could see how that kid might be a psychotic clown at this point, after all the merciless playground beatings.

Dec 14 2007 More 'Dark Knight' Posters, Trailer Update

dark-knight-joker-intl-post.jpg

Say what you will about the crime in Gotham City, it's still the only fictional metropolis with a 15-lane-wide stretch of downtown street--a perfect locale for flamboyant brooding.

And: there's another poster under the cut. Thanks to Wendy for pointing it out.

Plus: The Dark Knight trailer looks like it will debut online Sunday, here.
