Aug 25 2009 Further 'Hancock' Adventures Being Transcribed
Progress comes to Will Smith: Superhero God 2! The Hollywood Reporter says a couple writers from The Shield have been hired to pen the sequel:
Columbia has hired scribes Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to pen the sequel to the Will Smith superhero movie, which grossed $624 million worldwide last year. The original producing team is expected to return.Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the scribes will work with Smith and director Peter Berg to build on the world hinted at in the first movie.
The original starred Smith as a boozy, irresponsible superhero who undergoes an image makeover by a public relations man. It later is revealed that the hero is part of a line of immortal beings who have been around for more than 3,000 years and begin to lose their powers when in proximity to fellow immortals.
In the first film, Will Smith went from being hobo superhero to legitimate superhero to immortal man-god. The only logical progression in this ascent is that Will Smith will be revealed to be Will Smith.
Dec 5 2008 'Hancock 2' Will Be Reality
Doing the press rounds for Seven Pounds, Will Smith told JoBlo that Hancock will "definitely" have a sequel.
When we asked Will if he'd ever be up for playing another superhero he replied that there were a lot of unexplored characters in the HANCOCK universe that would be ripe for a sequel and confirmed that we'll definitely see the rumored HANCOCK 2 in a few years.
See, this makes sense to me. Chapter 1: homeless drunk reforms himself to help people. Chapter 2: it turns out he was only pretending to reform until you let him in your house; then he steals most of your valuables, and when you see him on the same corner a week later, he still has the audacity to ask you for money again. That's always the way it goes with these types.
