Oct 22 2009 These Two Might Be Mad Max, Lady Mad Max
Despite being met by reactions ranging from apathy to disgust, it looks like the Mel Gibson-less Mad Max film is still moving steadily but slowly forward. E! has reportedly heard from multiple sources that, though director George Miller has been incredibly secretive about plot and details, he's looking at British actor Tom Hardy (from Band of Brothers, and looking crazy in this Bronson trailer) and Charlize Theron to play the leads.
So this means come-out-of-nowhere Australian action star Sam Worthington wasn't automatically cast as Australian hero Mad Max when the new film was announced? I just assumed.
Great. Now what am I going to do with all these shirts?
Oct 17 2008 Brad Pitt Playing Space Odysseus
Warner Bros. and Brad Pitt are teaming with director George Miller in adapting a film version of Homer's epic poem The Odyssey ...IN SPACE! From Variety:
After turning Homer's epic poem "The Iliad" into the 2004 film "Troy," Warner Bros. and Brad Pitt are teaming with George Miller to adapt the Greek poet's other masterwork, "The Odyssey."Their intention is to transfer the tale to a futuristic setting in outer space.
Warner Bros. has quietly set up "The Odyssey," and the early hope is that Pitt will star and Miller will direct, with Pitt's Plan B producing.Pitt played Achilles in the Wolfgang Petersen-directed "Troy," a global blockbuster that David Benioff adapted from "The Iliad."
So long, Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey! There's a new space odyssey in town, and it has Brad Pitt and more obvious allegory! Do you think they'll try keep the names, but give them a sci-fi spin? Telemachus would be pretty awesome as the television-headed cyborg Tele-machinus 5.
Oct 26 2007 Some Other Crap That Happened...
- The Joker's marketing pumpkin's face is beginning to rot on one side, hinting at the presence of a certain villain. (Joan Rivers?) [Why So Serious?]
- Is Mad Max 4: Fury Road back on, with George Miller taking the project on alongside JLA? How much farther beyond Thunderdome can a man possibly go? [Moviehole]
- A movie based on a video game, by the writers of Dr. Dolittle 4, and by the company that made Garfield's Fun Fest is the nightmare that will be Spyro the Dragon. [Variety]
- An Underworld prequel is on the way, called Rise of the Lycans, that will finally answer all the questions left over from the current films. Like why I'll never see them. [Variety]
Oct 26 2007 Wonder Woman Boots Filled by Teresa Palmer?
When you need to cast a raven-haired, muscular amazon woman, a lot of people would turn to the obvious choice. That is, a woman with any of those traits.
But if you're Justice League of America director George Miller, your 62-year-old mind tells you what you need is the most slight, aryan-looking girl you can find. According to several sources, he's done just that, casting the giddy Teresa Palmer in the role of Wonder Woman. (Here she is looking drowned.)
Maybe once she's done some strength training, dyed her hair, and grown a foot this will all make sense.
Teresa Palmer, the new Wonder Woman? [MovieHole]
