Jul 22 2009 Wimpiness Gets a Face

Winning a role usually determined by bullies, Zachary Gordon, seen recently as Young Adrien Brody in Brothers Bloom, has been chosen as the lead in Fox 2000's adaptation of Diary of a Wimpy Kid:

Zachary Gordon has nabbed the title role in "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," Fox 2000's adaptation of Jeff Kinney's best-selling illustrated novels. Chloe Moretz is in negotiations for the female lead.

Thor Freudenthal is directing, and Nina Jacobson is producing via her Color Force banner along with Brad Simpson.

"Wimpy Kid" follows the travails of smart-aleck middle-school student Greg Heffley (Gordon) during the course of an academic year.

Moretz will play an intense student with a wry sense of humor who dresses in all black.
Rachel Harris ("The Hangover") has been cast as Gordon's mother.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was to see the 'Wimpy Kid' headline at the Hollywood Reporter only to find out the article was not in regards to a film documenting the childhood of Popeye's fat, hamburger-loving friend. It's beginning to look like we'll never find out whether or not Wimpy's eat now/pay Tuesday hamburger credit policy originated in his youth.

Jul 16 2009 'Whip It' Trailer: Coming-of-Age by Way of Roller Derby

whip-it-trailer.jpg

Former extra-terrestrial savior, fire starter, Scream victim and Charlie Angel Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, Whip It, has got a trailer. Watch it loud so your mom knows that, like Ellen Page, you'd rather be knocking girls over in roller skates than competing in beauty pageants. Or, if you're satisfied with the beauty pageant life, don't even bother with this movie; just keep on looking great.

Here's your trailer, grrls:

Oct 21 2008 And That's Why You Always Formally Invite Your Vampire Girlfriend Inside

let-right-one-in-clip.jpg

From shadow_king_6's response to the Yahoo! Answers question "Rules of being a vampire...?":

6=vampires cant go into some one home or church unless thay are invited in... and thay only have to be invited once.

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ANY THING ELSE ABOUT VAMPIRES... JUST WRITE ME .... IF I THINK ITS WORTH ANSWER I WILL WRITE YOU BACK....{ SO GOOD LUCK }

That was voted Best Answer, so it must be true. But what happens if a vampire DOES enter a home uninvited? What then, shadow_king_6? Is that worth answer?

Well, guess what, shadow_king_6--I don't need your answer. This clip from Sweden's premiere childhood vampire horror romance, Let the Right One In, answers it for me. And the answer is horrible:

Oct 16 2008 Restricted-Rated 'Let the Right One In' Trailer!

let-right-one-in-red-band.jpg

Here's a new trailer for the Swedish, My Girl-with-draculas movie, Let the Right One In. It's basically like the last trailer, except this one is red-band, and thus has slightly more blood and people flailing while on fire. If you haven't seen this yet, you must. It's setting a new standard for vampire child/insanely pale child Swedish coming-of-age love stories.

Jul 13 2007 December Boys Trailer

The box office numbers and I finally agree--Daniel Radcliffe makes a great orphan wizard! The makers of December Boys got my fax about this startling discovery, but seem to have favored the less interesting aspect of the orphan/wizard role when making their film. In this melodramatic coming-of-age tale, Radcliffe plays one of four orphan boys (none of whom play Quidditch or fight evil wizards) taken on a holiday by the sea, where they face the sudden realization one may be adopted. Having seen the trailer, I'll tell you it never answers why some f***ing orphans are getting better vacations than me.

Jun 8 2007 Mischa Barton Finding t.A.T.u.

mischa-barton-tatu.jpg

What's that, Variety? You say Mischa Barton will star in the Russian coming-of-age drama Finding t.A.T.u., the story of an American girl in Russia bonding with a local girl over their obsession with a certain fake lesbian pop duo? I should have known it would take the Russians to bring Mischa Barton and t.A.T.u. together, merging annoying acting with annoying music. More importantly, the film will provide a microcosmic look at why the Soviet Union failed: terrible, terrible taste.
