Jul 17 2009 Comic-Con Preview: Iron Man, Alice in Wonderland, Alien Portal to Alien Ancient Egypt

alice-wonderland-harlot.jpg

Entertainment Weekly, the magazine dedicated to discussing media created for enjoyment every seven days, has put up their Comic-Con sneak peek gallery--and they aren't all photos of Alice in Wonderland looking like a harlot. Included are new shots from Iron Man 2, Zombieland, Pandorum, Kick-Ass, Stargate Universe and.... There's ANOTHER Stargate series? In addition to the previous SIX Stargates? When did this series become a completely unpopular Star Trek?

Aug 12 2008 'The Spirit' is Looking Really, Really Bad

spirit-comic-con-fight.jpg

Though I've still never picked it up, I always hear how Will Eisner's The Spirit is a groundbreaking, must-read comic series for anyone at all interested in the medium. That information directly contradicts what I'm seeing in this fight scene that was shown at Comic Con, which paints The Spirit as a slapstick comedy with more getting-hit-with-objects-for-comedic-reactions than Home Alone. Also, it takes place in a sewage nebula? Just watch it.

Aug 8 2008 'G.I. Joe Resolute' Comic Convention Trailer Renews Faith in Dragging Out Old Cartoon Memories

gi-joe-resolute-trailer-con.jpg

With adaptations of a real-life G.I. Joe, Thundercats and another Transformers in the works, it's pretty obvious studios are aggressively preying on my generation's man-child psyche and our fading memories of weekday afternoon television programming. But surprisingly, this trailer for a new animated G.I. Joe is a welcome change of pace. I mean, it's still pandering to my base desire to return to an earlier, easier time in my life, when the hours between 3 and 5 were a fantasy escape instead of just more endless, crippling reality, but at least it's also pandering to my desire for non-stop gunfire and stabbing guys with ninja swords. Plus, it's written by Warren Ellis, so it might even prove entertaining beyond the parts where I keep shouting "dude!" at the screen.

Jul 31 2008 Comic Con Footage from the Bloody Smiley Face Movie

watchmen-comic-con.jpg

From Topless Robot, here's the Comic Convention footage of that movie everyone wants to see from the comic everyone likes to read. It's highly illegal, so don't wake mom up.

Jul 30 2008 'Teen Wolf 3' Comic Convention Trailer

wolfman-comic-con.jpg

Until cyber-enforcers remover it, here's the footage of Teen Wolf 3 that was shown at the Comic Convention last weekend. It looks marginally better than Teen Wolf Too, despite an apparent lack of arbitrary, heavily-choreographed musical numbers.

Jul 28 2008 'TR2N' Comic Con Trailer in Convenient Postage Stamp Size

tron-comic-con-trailer.jpg

Here's another video that won't exist long, because it was meant only for the eyes of those who attended a weekend convention of comic books and other nerdy entertainment. Disney's preferred method of dispersing TR2N information is through word of mouth, with Con attendees telling non-Con attendees, "Jeff Bridges was totally in it, and there were those sweet light motorcycles just like in the first Tron, or like in the Tron arcade game, but without the part where you have to fire upwards at the MCP cone. Also, it was called 'Tr-two-en' for some reason." But if you'd rather just see it yourself, here it is.

(Thanks, Dave.)

Jul 28 2008 'Wolverine' Trailer from Comic Convention

wolverine-trailer-comiccon.jpg

While it lasts, here's a cell phone's interpretation of the Wolverine trailer. I haven't heard this many people screaming and cheering at mutton chops since Chester A. Arthur took the oath of office with his shirt off. Which I also have cell phone footage of.

(Thanks, Joshua.)

Jul 18 2008 'Star Trek' ComicCon Posters Work Like the Backs of Collectable Movie Trading Cards

star-trek-comic-con-poster.jpg

As part of a Comic-Con preview, Entertainment Weekly has a look at the set of four Star Trek posters being handed out at the San Diego convention. Con attendees will each only get one of the posters apiece, meaning fans will be forced to literally murder each other if they hope to complete the logo. I guess that's one way to control the Trekker population.

Aug 1 2007 Hellboy 2 Comic-Con Limited-Edition Movie Poster

hellboy-2-poster.jpg

MTV got their hands on the limited-edition Hellboy 2 poster from Comic-Con, illustrated by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy 2: The Golden Army comes out Summer 2008, and from what I can tell will pit Hellboy against a giant crane game. "You will be mine, stuffed animal doggie!"

Jul 31 2007 Iron Man ComicCon Footage

Jon Favreau screened a trailer for Iron Man at ComicCon this last weekend, providing a peek at the first real footage of the film. Luckily, as seen above, the power of shoddy bootlegging has brought the clip to those of us who refuse to kowtow to convention exclusivity.

The early parts of the trailer, though fairly entertaining, made me worry that there will be too much exposition and patriotism, but the later parts had me forgiving all of that once the giant iron suit started shooting giant fireballs, particularly at the end when we get to the switch from dingy iron suit to classic red & gold. Not since Short Circuit 2 has a change in metallic luster had me so excited.

Thanks for the tip, MajorKnuckles, and thank your troops as well.

Jul 30 2007 New Hulk Concept Image

new-hulk.jpg

This piece of concept art for the new Hulk with Edward Norton was unveiled at ComicCon this last weekend, showing a somewhat darker direction for the character. My only complaint is that they had to show it to the ComicCon crowd, where Lou Ferrigno was surely charging for autographed pictures in some back corner. It's his one time of the year to receive any amount of positive recognition, and they had to go and remind him that each coming Hulk film pushes his old role further into cultural obscurity. Soon he'll less of a former Hulk, more of just a muscular freak with the occasional stint on King of Queens.

Jul 27 2007 Comic Con is Haute

startrekshirt.jpg
Nacho cheese being the color that it is, you can never have too many t-shirts!

Looking to impress the ladies down at your favorite Hollywood hotspot? You'll be down right irresistible in this Star Trek t-shirt, the summer's hottest accessory!

In case you've never been to Comic Con, it involves bored-looking, criminally underdressed Hooters waitresses and semi-employed model/actresses passing out t-shirts like the one you see above while trying not to look repulsed by guys like this and this and this. There, I just saved you $50.

If you're in San Diego in July, I recommend the beach. There are just as many hot girls in skimpy outfits, and some of them are even underage!
