Nov 25 2008 'Benjamin Button' International Trailer

benjamin-button-intl-traile.jpg

Paramount has released a new trailer for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, David Fincher's film about a man who was born in his eighties and ages backwards. It has a lot of new footage, but sadly doesn't touch on the part where Revlon scientists kidnap Benjamin Button and dissect him for his secrets. Give it a look:

Nov 18 2008 'Curious Case of Benjamin Button' Poster: Cate Blanchett Edition

curious-case-blanchett-post.jpg

Here's the second of the two character posters for David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Has Cate Blanchett always looked like she's perpetually in the initial stages of morphing into a lioness? Maybe I just never noticed.

When the transformation is complete, I bet she'll still make a great Lion Elizabeth.

May 5 2008 New Trailer to One of Those 'Indiana Jone' Movies

indiana-jones-full-trailer.jpg

There's this new movie coming out, something along the lines of a National Treasure or a Tomb Raider. It involves an older gentleman--sort of a cool Han Solo character with a whip and detective hat--the kid from Even Stevens, Bill Murray's girlfriend from Scrooged, and Queen Elizabeth affecting a Russian accent, all attempting to sell a ridiculous plot involving a solid-gold city, an all-powerful skull made of crystal, and the dead rising from the grave. I'm told it's a follow-up to some pirate boat movie and one of the Monty Python films. If you're interested in such things, a new trailer is under the cut.

Apr 29 2008 'Indiana Jones 4' on TV, in Commercial Form

indiana-jones-blanchett-tv.jpg

Did you think you were going to get more than a day without some sort of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull media? Nice try, suckers. Here's the new TV spot for what I'm hiply-dubbing IJ4:KotCS (you say the last part "cot-kiss"), chockfull of some fantastically redundant titles for anyone at all familiar with the series. Apparently, Indiana Jones is investigating some sort of "ancient secret" this time? Get the F out! Seriously though, the music and everything had me pretty excited for 30 seconds.

Mar 10 2008 'Indiana Jones' Has Another Poster

indiana-jones-crystal-poste.jpg

Thank god someone's finally getting to seriously promoting this thing. I was getting worried they were going to stop after the sixth poster, but this new one really drives home the point that this will be nearly a parody of an Indiana Jones movie.

For today's dose of Indiana Jones, Nibenay has five new shots to indulge in, scanned from the popular French magazine "Fourth-Wall Breaking Old Ladies in Funny Hats Monthly". Check them out here.

Feb 13 2008 Indiana Jones Doing More Hunting for Crystal Skulls, L'espresso

indiana-jones-lespresso.jpg

I've discovered a fun way to enjoy these new, otherwise pretty boring Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull photos. First, pretend L'esresso is some kind of Italian coffee brand, then imagine a ludicrous scenario in which Indiana Jones has to do crazy things in search of his favorite coffee brand, L'espresso. (Think Mentos and early Diet Coke commercials.) The only catch is, your commercial has to end on one of these freeze frames, followed by a baritone Italian's booming voice shouting, "L'espresso!"*

It's as good a way as any to waste ten minutes

*Bonus points if your commercial includes a shot of Indy replacing a cup of L'espresso on a pedestal with an equivalently weighted bag, or anything with whipping.

Feb 8 2008 Another Shot from 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'

indiana-jones-blanchett-lab.jpg

Blanchett will be the first Indy villain to communicate entirely in Princess Bride quotes, with the actress here requesting that Shia LaBeouf drop his sword. Or maybe holding swords to throats is just her thing, like pulling hearts out was for Temple of Doom guy.

Feb 1 2008 Another New 'Indiana Jones' Shot

indiana-jones-crystal-blanc.jpg

From the upcoming issue of Empire comes another new shot from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, in which it appears Prince Valiant is nonchalantly holding the guy from Pitfall hostage. That is all.

Jan 2 2008 New 'Indiana Jones' Photos by Annie Leibovitz

indiana-jones-shots-0.jpg

An Vanity Fair article covering the lifespan of the Indiana Jones series has brought with it some new photos, including the above first shot of Cate Blanchett as Agent Spalko, an evil Russian from the time when we considered Russians evil, rather than the butt of jokes about waiting in line for bread. I can't be the only one seeing a cross between Prince Valiant (or Javier Bardem in No County For Old Men, if you prefer) and Thomas Gainsborough's The Blue Boy, but hopefully I'm the first to cleverly juxtapose the two.

More new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull shots, like Shia LaBeouf pretending to ride a (possibly transforming) motorcycle, under the cut.

You can read the full article here, though I warn you, Vanity Fair's journalism has reached a point that an emoticon is used to close a paragraph.

Oct 29 2007 'I'm Not There' Actors Recreate Music Video

im-not-there-intl.jpg

Just when I thought it wasn't possible, I'm Not There has found a way to reach new heights in its aggressive campaign to point out, "Hey, look, we've got several celebrities doing varied impressions of Bob Dylan!"

This international trailer doesn't even mess with plot, instead focusing on how interesting it is that they've recreated the Subterranean Homesick Blues video with their celebrity celebrity impersonators.

It's actually strangely enjoyable to watch, but come on, two hours of this?

Oct 23 2007 New 'I'm Not There' Trailer Borders on Parody

im-not-there-trailer-2.jpg

Last week on SNL, there was a hilarious digital short where cast members did impressions of various actors doing impressions of Bob Dylan in a movie. Like that old skit about now-famous actors trying out for a role in Star Wars, it was very funny.

Funny, that is, until I realized this was not SNL displaying actual humor for once, but a real movie in which Richard Gere, Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale and others do impressions of Bob Dylan, apparently meant to be taken seriously.

See the new trailer under the cut, and see why Darrell Hammond is furious about his exclusion.

Jul 16 2007 I'm Not There Clip

As much as I try, I can't take Todd Haynes' Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There seriously. Having several actors (like Christian Bale, Richard Gere, and Heath Ledger) play Dylan sounded interesting, but this clip with Cate Blanchett as the songster and David Cross as Allen Ginsberg is lost on me. All I can see is Blanchett doing a goofy impression of Bob Dylan and Tobias Funke riding around with a beard, and in this case it's not his wife.
