Oct 30 2009 Anthony Hopkins Agrees To Be Thor's Dad

anthony-hopkins-odin.jpg

Kenneth Branagh's Thor adaptation has added more surprising credibility to its cast. Variety reports Anthony Hopkins has signed on to play Odin, father to Loki (non-biologically) and Thor and king of Asgard, which will mean something if you're intimately familiar with Norse mythology and/or comic books.

To help you understand what powers and abilities Hopkins will possess in the role, I've copied a paragraph from the Odin (Marvel Comics) Wikipedia entry's section on powers and abilities, replacing "Odin" with "Sir Anthony Hopkins."

As King of the Norse Gods, Sir Anthony Hopkins possesses superhuman strength; durability and courtesy of the Golden Apples of Idunn, a greatly extended lifepsan. Sir Anthony Hopkins is capable of manipulating the Sir Anthony Hopkins Force - a source of magical energy - for a number of purposes, including energy projection; creation of ilusions and force fields; levitation; molecular manipulation and teleportation. The character has also used the Sir Anthony Hopkinspower for greater feats such as transporting the entire human race to an alternate dimension; compressing the population of an entire planet into a single being, the Mangog and taking a soul away from the arch-demon Mephisto.

This Sir Anthony Hopkins Force sounds pret-ty powerful.

Aug 20 2009 'Wolfman' Trailer: See What Happens When a Man Sometimes Turns Into a Partial Wolf!

wolfman-trailer.jpg

The trailer for Joe Johnson's The Wolfman has been released, and I'm pleased to say that, as hoped, the film looks dark, often ominous, and full of grade A special effects and actors. But I can't help but think that maybe the preview could have shown a little bit more of Wolfman's relationship with his high school girlfriend, and how he has to protect her from all the nomadic rival werewolves that want to kill her. What do you think?

Feb 24 2009 Slumdog Joins Woody Allen's Newest

pinto-watts-allen.jpg

Naomi Watts and Freida Pinto, the cutie from Slumdog Millionaire, have joined Anthony Hopkins and Brand in the cast of Woody Allen's yet-untitled new film:

Freida Pinto will follow up her performance in the Oscar-winning "Slumdog Millionaire" with a role in Woody Allen's latest project.

This year's Cinderella at the Oscar ball will join the long list of Allen's muses as she takes on the ingenue role in the helmer's still-untitled pic.

Naomi Watts has also signed on to star in the film, joining the already-announced Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins.

I imagine hanging out with Woody Allen being a lot like an '80s sitcom, where Woody is like the Kirk Cameron from Growing Pains. We go to the Oscars, he catches a glimpse of Freida Pinto:

"Who is that!"

"Oh, she's in Slumdog Millionaire. Really young; way out of your league, man."

"She's beautiful. I've got to find a way to get her in my next movie!"

Then we spent the next twenty minutes scheming how to pull it off before getting caught by her dad, and people complain that the same basic episode aired a few years ago with Scarlett Johansson.

Until cyber-enforcers remover it, here's the footage of Teen Wolf 3 that was shown at the Comic Convention last weekend. It looks marginally better than Teen Wolf Too, despite an apparent lack of arbitrary, heavily-choreographed musical numbers.

Oct 22 2007 Hopkins Confirms He's Hitchcock With Impression

anthony-hopkins-hitchcock.jpg

After seeing this clip in which Sir Anthony Hopkins describes, in detail, the opening to the Alfred Hitchcock biopic he's starring in, complete with his impression of the director, I've decided a good television series would be Anthony Hopkins Describes Movies. Few master thespians are willing to paint a scene with the same sound effects, pantomiming, and general excitement of a 10-year-old like Hopkins does here, and we should take advantage of that. Imagine Hannibal Lecter doing scenes from Jurassic Park, complete with roaring, screaming, and character impressions, all vaguely distorted by his aging memory. Amazing.

Video under the cut.
