Nov 13 2009 'Leap Year' Poster: Monogamy Fickleness Sells

leap-year-poster.jpg

Apparently this poster takes place on top of the Knocked Up poster. Which is actually a surprisingly popular location. Nothing sells them tickets like the sensation you're staring into the glowing light of a nauseating green afterlife.

Oct 28 2009 Dramedy Named After a Cracker Gets Solid Cast

adams-galifianakis.jpg

Do you like the style of comedies that are also dramas, and vice versa? Then you may possibly enjoy Town House, just such a comedy-drama fusion that has Zach Galifianakis and Amy Adams in talks to star:

Story is loosely based on Tish Cohen's debut novel of the same name, which centers on an agoraphobic man, who lives with his teenage son in a historic Boston townhouse that he inherited from his rock star father. With royalties from his father's work dwindling, the man is forced to come to terms with his life. A call girl strikes up a friendship with the man. Doug Wright and Carney adapted the screenplay.

Galifianakis as an agoraphobe? That sounds like just the kind of meaty, socio-mutanty part he can sink his beard into. Computer, purchase tickets. Two. Weekend after opening.

Apr 29 2009 'Julie & Julia' Trailer: Holy Cats, It Mentions Blogging!

julie-julia-trailer.jpg

Nora Ephron, the writer/director responsible for repeatedly informing you Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are the perfect couple, has made a movie in which Meryl Streep plays a Julia Child impersonator and Amy Adams plays surrogate Meg Ryan. If that's the kind of thing you might be up for, here's the trailer:

Feb 2 2009 'Night at the Museum 2' Poster is 'OK'

night-at-museum-2-poster.jpg

Or so the Lincoln Memorial tells me! It would be less obnoxious if they had Lincoln in a backwards cap, lowering his sunglasses as he jumped a skateboard over the cast. I mean, if we're going to have a statue of the Great Emancipator doing something stupid, then let's gets nuts with it.

Jan 7 2009 'Sunshine Cleaning' Poster Puts Emily Blunt in an Academy Award Sandwich

sunshine-cleaning-poster.jpg

Here's the poster for Sunshine Cleaning, the movie where Amy Adams and Emily Blunt take up crime scene clean-up to pay for her licking child's special education (trailer here, if this description seemed confusing). Looks like a cyan-to-beige gradation is the new trend in charming indie dramedies with "sunshine" in the title. Jot that down in your movie poster notebook.

Dec 23 2008 'Doubt' has six Critic's Choice Award nominations, five Golden Globe nominations, won heaps of praise from critics, stars some of our best living actors...

But it seems like it might make me confront the widespread corruption within the Catholic Church, my own feelings of uncertainty, and generally make me think a lot. Thanks but no thanks. Now what's this thing with Adam Sandler and gumball rain?

Dec 19 2008 'Night at the Museum 2' Teaser Uses Museum Definition Loosely

night-at-the-musem-2-teaser.jpg

Ben Stiller is back in a museum, and it's night, so I think you all know what that means! (Things coming to life!) And since it's the Smithsonian this time, that means even more notable statues and wax recreations of historical figures are making hilarious living cameos! And since the Lincoln Memorial is also apparently considered a museum, there's also Lincoln! Here's a teaser:

Nov 20 2008 'Night at the Museum 2' Looks So Much Crazier Than Days at the Museum

Ben Stiller is still guarding that wacky, magic museum. He'll never learn! It's Night at the Museum 2! USA Today has a series of shots from the film, including Bill Hader as Gen. Custer, Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart, Hank Azaria as Pharaoh Kahmunrah, Christopher Guest as Ivan the Terrible, and Jonah Hill as Fellow Security Guard. Find humor in seeing celebrities as historical figures while you can, because you won't be laughing when it's in a remake of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Here they are.

Oct 15 2008 Amy Adams is 'Maid' of 'Leap Year'

amy-adams.jpg

America's Sweetheart elect (believe me, she will soon officially be America's Sweetheart), Amy Adams, is in negotiations to star in Leap Year, a high concept romantic comedy from the writers of Made of Honor. Well, that sounds thoroughly unwatchable. Still though, tell us more, Hollywood Reporter:

Adams will play an uptight woman who travels to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on leap day, Feb. 29, following an Irish tradition in which women propose to men on that day and the man has to say yes. When weather derails her trip, she enlists the help of a surly Irish innkeeper to make an unexpected cross-country trek to pull off the perfect proposal in time.

Harry Elfont and Deb Kaplan, the duo behind Columbia's "Made of Honor," wrote the screenplay, which is in the tone of "It Happened One Night."

I'm mostly disappointed these two couldn't figure out a way to work a nonsensical, Made of Honor-style pun into the title. Admittedly, I can't think of any alternate spellings of "leap" or "year," but just a Wikipedia search tells me Leap Day is also referred to as Bissextile Day. Just bold-face and capitalize the "sex" part and you've got yourself a start.

Oct 3 2008 'Sunshine Cleaning' is Totally the Next 'Little Miss Sunshine' ...Cleaning

sunshine-cleaning-trailer.jpg

Ever wonder what Forrest Gump would be like if, in that scene where the principal is like, "I'm sorry, Sally Field, your son is too stupid for school, unless you do it with me," and Sally Field is like, "Fine," Sally Field instead said, "Nah, I'll just start a business cleaning human fluids from crime scenes"? Well, you should have wondered that, because it looks like it makes for a decent indie-style dramedy:

Sep 15 2008 'Doubt' Looks Like the Best Church-Based Homosexual Pedophilia Accusation Movie of the Year

doubt-trailer-streep-hoffma.jpg

Here's the trailer for Doubt, starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and loads of shouting. It's directed by the same guy who did Joe Versus the Volcano, but I feel confident it will win more acclaim than Joe Versus the Volcano, and will eventually replace that film in the Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks DVD value pack, placing it alongside You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle despite not starring either Tom Hanks or Meg Ryan. It's just that powerful.

Dec 27 2007 'Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day' Poster Demands Fetishism

miss-pettigrew-lives-poster.jpg

So, living for a day means finally indulging your group stocking fetish? I don't get it. IMDB says:

Guinevere Pettigrew, a middle-aged London governess, finds herself unfairly dismissed from her job. An attempt to gain new employment catapults her into the glamorous world and dizzying social whirl of an American actress and singer, Delysia Lafosse.

Ugh. I liked it more when it was about stocking fetishes, and when I thought it was Kate Winslet in the poster.
