Mar 19 2008 '300' Sequel Awkwardly Hinted At

300-sequel.jpg

The one problem with computer-enhanced, homo-erotic violence: once you get a taste, you just want more. Well, we just might get it, with 300 producer Mark Canton nearly confirming a sequel with a disturbing series of winks and grins. SOS Hollywood has the interview:

SOS: Is a new 300 a reality? Should we expect to meet you again on a press junket for that?

Canton: (Another gigantic smile) Wouldn’t it be nice to do that again with Zack (Snyder).

SOS: So you’re going for it, right?

Canton: I just said “wouldn’t it be nice?”. But I’d love to. (and he winked). Budgets are really a problem to approve these days. (Another smile and left the room).

What are they going to call it, 301?! There. I said it so you don't have to. Instead, ponder the horrifying ramifications this could have in regards to Meet the Spartans (e.g., becoming like Scary Movies, the Wayans Brothers themselves, or a swarm of angry wasps: terrible and numerous).

Oct 19 2007 'Meet the Spartans' Trailer Meets Laughlessness

meet-the-spartans-trailer.jpg

The forcefully humorless parody comedy has come a long way since the Wayans boys and Scary Movie tried to reinvigorate the style. With recent innovations in the lowering of standards, gone is the necessity to parody an entire genre to reach an hour-and-a-half of anti-comedy. As this trailer to Meet the Spartans shows, we've now reached a point where you can simply reenact a single film, and as long as you make enough clumsy references to other movies and pop culture, it just might be mistaken for a legitimate comedy.

Remember that movie Stomp the Yard? Wouldn't it be funny if Spartans from 300 danced like that? Britney Spears shaved her head, so wouldn't it be funny to see a poor imitation of Britney Spears doing the same thing, then being murdered? Isn't any reference to the title of a Ben Stiller movie kind of funny?

Meet the Spartans answers all of these questions, and the answer is always 'no.'

Imagine a movie so bad that you feel apologetic that Kevin Sorbo had to take a role in it, even after however many seasons of Hercules. It seems mythological but here it is, under the cut.

Mar 12 2007 300 Wins the Weekend

300-box-office.jpg
"My opening is even bigger than your mom's, sucka."

This weekend, 300 took the top spot in the box office, bringing in an estimated $70 million and destroying its closest competitor, four past-their-prime actors playing four past-their-prime suburbanites in Wild Hogs. The massive earnings gives the epic the achievement of highest March opening ever, stealing the title from Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, which was apparently very popular, as well as becoming the third-highest opening for an R-rated film, just under The Matrix Reloaded and The Passion of the Christ. It also gained the honor, bestowed by the man behind me at the theater, of being "the most f***ed up crazy ass shit" he'd ever seen. This award was given about fifteen times during the course of the movie.

Mar 9 2007 Watchmen Test Hidden in 300 Trailer

rorschach-watchmen-300.jpg

The first test image from Zack Snyder's Watchmen adaptation has shown up online hidden in an extended trailer for 300; Ain't It Cool News later supplied a better quality version of the image. The flash frame of the trailer revealed a test shot of Rorschach, presumably testing if a man could wear a blotted white cloth over his head (results: success).

After Mel Gibson hid a shot of himself in the Apocalypto trailer, it makes you wonder what else we might be hidden within trailers, and why more nerds aren't studying them frame-by-frame to find out. Come on, guys, is World of Warcraft really that much more important?

Empire has a collection of new posters for 300, including one of this gentleman, who offers his opinion on God-Kings. In the background, the Spartans charge to attack the man simply because his culture is based on Mardis Gras beads.

Dec 8 2006 Final 300 Trailer

300-final-trailer.jpg

The final trailer for 300 has hit the "net," more slow-motiony than ever. And seeing Spartan warriors move across your screen with the same velocity as Grandma petting her cat(s) really helps you realize, man, those guys had some gay outfits. I know your society was built on a foundation of homosexual pedophilia, but come on, you're going into battle. How about putting some pants on?

Oct 5 2006 Official "300" Teaser Trailer Here

real-300-trailer.jpg

An official teaser trailer for Zack Snyder's 300 has gone online in a high quality format, finally allowing a real look at the gorgeous visuals in motion. The film is an adaptation of Frank Miller's epic graphic novel, telling the story of the Battle of Thermopylae, in which 300 Spartan warriors fought the odds against the enormous Persian army. On the Greek coolness meter, this already ranks way above boy-love and city-states but still below Zeus and falafel, sitting comfortably in the area formerly dominated by Uncle Jesse's hair.

Sep 22 2006 300 Trailer Puts Previous 299 to Shame

300-trailer.jpg

Imagine the strength and glory of the Spartan empire and their epic battle with the Persian Empire all filtered through the mind of comic book genius Frank Miller and brought to the big screen as a stylized masterpiece. Now imagine waking up in the bathroom of a Dunkin' Donuts to find a large, hairy Greek man standing above you holding a plastic knife, naked, screaming for you to call him your fireman. Both are testaments to the power of the Greeks, but you can only see the trailer for one here.

Dec 27 2005 300 Video Journal Up

300-video-journal.jpg

The first video journal for Zack Snyder's adaptation of Frank Miller's 300 is up. And if all the blue screens don't look impressive, you can check out the concept art page which gives a rough composite of what the final shots will look like. There's not enough material to make any judgements yet, but it looks like they're heading in the right direction. And by "right direction" I mean they hired a lot of muscular guys in underwear.
