Universal Making Action-Adventure About Young Leonardo

young-leonardo.jpg

With Yahoo Serious's Young Einstein now far enough behind us that another film about the young, famous genius won't seem too derivative, Universal is developing a movie covering the life of a youthful Leonardo da Vinci. Like The Tick episode before it, Universal's Leonardo will paint Da Vinci as a sort of action-adventure character, and his mission will be to stop the European Renaissance from regressing to the Dark Ages--using action, adventure, and presumably school programs that encourage interest in the arts. Similarly, the Starz network already has a show in the works called Da Vinci's Demons, which tells of the artist-inventor's life in his twenties, while Warner Bros. last year announced Leonardo da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever, meant as a supernatural adventure take on the icon. So many Leonardos! Honestly, it's depressing enough to make me wonder why da Vinci even bothered to use action and adventure to save art in the first place.
