'Red Dawn' Trailer: New Teenagers Will Defend Same Country from New Country

red-dawn-trailer.jpg

If you thought Chris Hemsworth's charismatic delivery of Thor's dialogue meant he could sell anything, you haven't yet heard the lines he's asked to say with a grimace in Red Dawn. The predictably-polished remake of the 1984 original casts Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, and Connor Cruise (yes, of being adopted by Tom Cruise fame) as the fervently-jingoistic modern equivalents of Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Charlie Sheen, Lea Thompson, and so on, tasked with defending their football and chain bar & grill-loving small town from the invading forces of North Korea (changed from China at the last minute in the interest of the Chinese box office numbers).

Red Dawn, like the similarly-Hemsworth-buzzcut-sporting Cabin in the Woods, was shelved for a few years while MGM was going through some financial troubles, but it seems likely it will only do better because of it. Thor and Snow White and the Huntsman have made a big star out of Hemsworth, while The Hunger Games has made Hutcherson a notable name in militant youths--not to mention what Olympics gymnastics has done for the popularity of cheering for attractive teenagers to defeat an bewilderingly-mobile Asian threat. Here's the completely functional trailer:

'Skyfall', That 'Red Dawn' Remake Get Some Heavily-Armed Posters

skyfall-char-thumb.jpg

Both long delayed while a bankrupt MGM got its shit together, an exciting new chapter of the Bond series and a disheartening new chapter of remaking everything from the '80s are coming to theaters this November with Skyfall and Red Dawn. The Skyfall Facebook and Yahoo have some new posters for each, so hold tight to Javier Bardem's flowing, flaxen mane and continue the adventure of seeing those below.

'Epic' Trailer: Girl Shrinks Down To Help Leaf Sprites Fight Shark Head Things, or Something

epic-teaser.jpg

Perfect for those who want something vaguely recollective of FernGully, but with less of the heavy-handed environmental message that was pretty much the whole point of FernGully, here's the first trailer for 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky's CGI-animated Epic. In the film, a teenage girl somehow gets Honey, I Shrunk the Kidded down to a minuscule size, whereupon she runs across a leaf-wearing society of little white people at war with a rival small-sized society composed of shark-headed things that are definitely the bad guys. And in case that isn't enough miniaturized races for you and your family, there are also wacky, talking slugs. Thanks to the internet's loosening of the definition, that is now what "epic" means.

'Hunger Games' Will Fill Our Malls with Peeta and Squealing Youths

hunger-games-super-bowl-spot.jpg

Like the Twilight leads and Kevin James before them, the stars of The Hunger Games must first prove their charisma in a mall setting, in the bright skylights of the food court, before they're allowed to become the full-fledged international stars we're apparently going to make them into.

New from 'Hunger Games': Oh, Right, There's Lenny Kravitz Again, Being in This

hunger-games-janet-jackson-kravitz.jpg

For all you Hunger Games fans out there, here's a look at what I'm told is Cinna adding a final, fiery touch to the costumes of Katniss and Peeta before the Tribute Parade, where Katniss will become the Girl on Fire.

For the rest of us, girl one and boy one apparently dress up like Janet Jackson, and--oh, hey, what's up, Lenny Kravitz? Why are you holding a flare like it's a Twix?

New 'Hunger Games' Poster: GET HUNGER GAMED! (Not Actual Tagline)

hunger-games-one-sheet-thumb.jpg

Correcting the usual problems of "floating head" movie posters, this new one-sheet for The Hunger Games affixes the floating heads to banners, and copy-pastes a bunch of them in a row. Progress! Or probably not. Either way, this is definitely a new Hunger Games poster. Add it to the pile.

This Is Not Michael Caine's Finest Moment

journey-2-banner-01.jpg

At last, the watershed moment we've eagerly awaited ever since the tragic events of 1978's The Swarm: reconciliation between Michael Caine and bees. From this point forward, may insect-kind and Caine-kind live together in harmony within a single Honey, I Shrunk the Kids theme park attraction. This is our Independence Day.

That 'Hunger Games' Trailer Is Here, Kids

hunger-games-trailer.jpg

Having debuted earlier today to ABC's early morning youth audience and the tourists of Manhattan, the trailer for Lionsgate's Hunger Games has now arrived online. Though the preview only shows footage from the first half of the film, fans will surely still pore over every detail within, while the rest of us wonder, "So, is this like a really shitty, Donald Sutherland-run summer camp or what?"

Full 'Hunger Games' Trailer Coming to Monday's 'Good Morning America'

hunger-games-teaser.jpg

In a major PR coup that may at last steal the coveted "adolescent getting ready for school" demographic away from those bastards at Today, ABC's Good Morning America has secured the rights to premiere the first full trailer for Lionsgate's seemingly-anticipated adaptation of The Hunger Games, and Monday morning they'll be screening it for an eager George Stephanopoulos. Josh Hutcherson, who plays someone named "Peeta" in the film, will provide an introduction for the preview before it goes out at 8 a.m., and the trailer will be simulcast on a screen over Times Square, giving passing tourists a treat above and beyond the slice of Sbarro they're about to have as an Authentic New York breakfast.

'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' Trailer Continues Tradition of Painful 3D Excess

journey-2-mysterious-island-trailer-1.jpg

Brendan Fraser and his hair appliances have been excised from the series, but the Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D franchise continues, with star Josh Hutcherson now travelling with a typically-incredulous The Rock, Luis Guzmán, and Vanessa Hudgens on the search for THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND.

As with the center of the Earth (3D), finding the place itself ends up being the easy part; it's surviving and getting off the island that eats up the last hour of cinematic clock-watching. What starts off as a lovely vacation to a tropic isle--a lovely place where you can ride giant bees without the lines of the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! Disney tour--quickly becomes a nightmare once Michael Caine (spoiler: Michael Caine is also on this Mysterious Island) points out that, in addition to these awesome bees you can ride, there are also other giant things more dangerous than bees. Like giant lizards, for example. Or like The Rock's giant pecs, which perform a dance that deflect oncoming berries away from them and towards an eager audience's 3D glasses. Just as Jules Verne always intended.

'Hunger Games' Adds Hutcherson, Hemsworth, Probably Cool Sunglasses

hutcherson-hemsworth.jpg

Gary Ross's adaptation of Hunger Games just got a couple more kids to kill each other with news Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have joined the already-cast Jennifer Lawrence in the Battle Royale-like story of young men and women being picked to fight to the death. Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D, The Kids Are Alright, all future roles that would have previously gone to Elijah Wood) and Hemsworth (Chris "Thor" Hemsworth's brother, who, despite looking just like the guy in high school who was so proud of his six-wheeled pick-up truck, I'm assured is an actor who has kissed Miley Cyrus on-set and off) will be playing Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, respectively, and I'll let the official press release explain what that means, because those words were mostly nonsense:

Peeta accompanies heroine Katniss Everdeen into the 74th annual Hunger Games as the male tribute chosen from their native District 12, the most remote and marginalized district of all the subjugated districts of Panem. At the outset of the Games, Peeta publicly confesses his longtime feelings for Katniss, setting up one of the most fascinating fictional rapports of all time with his supposed arena rival. Though Katniss and Gale have never had a romantic relationship, they share a transcendent bond, often of few words. When Katniss volunteers to participate in the 74th Annual Hunger Games in her younger sister's stead, they both presume that bond will carry her far through the horrors she will face in the arena, and they each silently hope they'll be reunited in safety on the other side of the ordeal.

Place your bets on if this will be the next Harry Potter or the next... what was the one with Bill Murray, that no one saw? City of Ember? Next that.

Josh Hutcherson Gets a Detention Instead of a Spider-Man

hutcherson-spider-man.jpg

What a shame. It seems after his mouth-breathing Spider-Man audition didn't take, Josh Hutcherson's insecurities led him right into the waiting arms of a Dane Cook movie directed by Torque. Variety says:

Josh Hutcherson has signed on to topline and exec produce the teen horror-comedy pic "Detention."

Indie project, which also stars Dane Cook, marks the second feature for helmer Joseph Kahn, who is best known for directing hit musicvideos such as Eminem's "Without Me."

Story centers on teens who must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life. Kahn and Mark Palermo penned the script.

Our little Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D is growing up so fast. Executive producing, now! Our Firehouse Dog Kid is a Firehouse Dog Man.

The Spider-Man That Almost Was: Josh Hutcherson's Peter Parker Audition

hutcherson-spider-man.jpg

It will probably be some time before we get to see the official new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield showing off his magic spider powers, so, in the meantime, how about taking a look at another actor who almost got the part jumping around as Peter Parker? In campaigning for the role, Josh Hutcherson--whom, you may recall, was on the shortlist of five actors being considered for Marc Webb's reboot--put together an audition reel of himself in glasses fighting some classic douchebags, giving us some insight into what his version of the superhero would look like. What's it look like? Head to LatinoReview to find out. (It looks zitty and constantly agape.)

The 'Spider-Man' Shortlist: Which of These Guys Do You Want to See Dressed as a "Spider Man"?

spider-man-web.jpg

Interrupting our concerns over which supermodel Michael Bay will choose for Transformers 3 (probably whichever is best at shuffling around shooting targets, right?), the Hollywood Reporter claims casting for the lead in Marc Webb's new back-to-school Spider-Man film has been narrowed down to five likely candidates, Want to hear some names, see some photos, read why they all make me apathetically shrug? Let's continue then.

'Winged Creatures' Trailer Sadly Lacks Both Bats and Harpies

winged-creatures-trailer.jpg

Here's the trailer for Winged Creatures, a drama that follows five survivors of a random shooting who decide to make a movie that will draw obvious comparisons to Crash. Wondering why it's called Winged Creatures when my description makes no mention of winged creatures? It's a metaphor!

A moment of random violence erupts in an ordinary Los Angeles diner. The survivors (Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, Forest Whitaker, Josh Hutcherson) find that the meanings of their lives have changed. No matter how much their families and friends (Jennifer Hudson, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Embeth Davidtz) attempt to understand, these individuals must follow their own paths to recovery seeking to regain trust in a world that now seems chaotic.

A story of tragedy and hope for our times, Winged Creatures is a powerful ensemble drama that explores the notion that our lives are fleeting, like birds in flight, like winged creatures.

That is so true. I've always said life is like a winged creature. Only instead of birds, I always gave griffins as an example. And I refuse to give my age in anything but "griffin units." The word "year" does nothing to express the transitory nature of life, whereas "griffin units" evoke images of griffins, and how griffins fly, much like how life flies past. And how life is half eagle, half lion.
