'Paul' Red-Band Trailer: Observe the Grabbing of Alien Testicles

paul-trailer-red-band.jpg

We've been offered a few trailers for Greg Mottola's upcoming alien buddy comedy, Paul, before, but none of those included extra-terrestrial sexual molestation. This one does--both ways, I think!

Another 'Paul' Trailer: Incongruity Between Seth Rogen's Voice and Gangling Alien Body Still Jarring

paul-trailer-3.jpg

Dad brought you home a new addition for your Paul trailer collection: the full-length domestic trailer for the alien buddy road movie! Let's keep the hope alive that director Greg Mottola and his impressive cast--Pegg! Frost! Bateman! Wiig! Rogen!--have elevated the comedy above what this third middle-of-the-road preview suggests, because times like these demand a high quality Mac and Me for adult fanboys.

Spoilers warning: a brief shot in this trailer heavily suggests how this film might end, which could spoil something for anyone not already assuming this ends like E.T.

'Paul' UK Trailer: 'Hot Fuzz' and 'Extract' Casts Merge for Seth Rogen Alien Comedy

paul-trailer-uk.jpg

A new trailer for Greg Mottola's Paul? Yes! If the first trailer didn't capture your interest with its tale of British nerds (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost) befriending Seth Rogen the Alien, perhaps this one has what it takes. Especially if what it takes is jokes about alien swimsuit areas, because it has those in spades:

'Paul' Teaser: Nerd Things and Good Comedy Things, Combine!

paul-teaser-trailer.jpg

While Due Date looks to be the big, mainstream buddy-road-comedy that will make the buy-an-island money, for the nerdier crowd, there's another buddy-road-comedy on the horizon with more aliens, more Comic Con, and Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jason Bateman, and Kristen Wiig doing their funny things. Doesn't that sound just right for Us? I thought so, too. Here's the first teaser:

First Look at 'Paul': Just a Couple of Geeks, Really

paul-pegg-frost.jpg

In Superbad/Adventureland director Greg Mottola's Paul, the Hot Fuzz pairing of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (co-writers of the screenplay) star as a fanboy duo on a road trip from Comic Con to New Mexico, where they encounter the titular alien. Logically, this means the two have to look like Comic Con nerds, and we can now approve or disapprove of the accuracy of that portrayal with these first shots of their archetypal convention-goers. So what do you think? Looks pretty convincing to me--especially Frost. He's really captured "guy you preemptively hold your breath for as he passes by because he's probably sweating a lot."

Greg Mottola Directing 'Important Artifacts'

important-artifacts.jpg

The long-forgotten promise of a movie about a relationship between two hip, affluent, attractive people is finally coming to fruition. Risky Business has news Superbad and Adventureland director Greg Mottola has been signed to write and likely direct Paramount's adaptation of Important Artifacts and Personal Property From the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion and Jewelry:

“Adventureland” writer-director Greg Mottola has been hired by Paramount to write the screenplay for its adaptation of “Important Artifacts.”

Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman quickly became attached to star in what Mottola will spin into a romantic comedy.

An art director at the New York Times, [author] Shapton crafted a fictional estate auction catalog full of personal items and photographs from the four-year romance between a male photographer and a younger food columnist.

I like Mottola, but I'm not sold on this. If I wanted to watch a couple's relationship as told through the items they saved, I'd just record myself weepily sorting through my "old relationship" shoebox. Though, I guess it might be nice to see some relationship "artifacts" that aren't Quiznos receipts...

First Look at Nerd-Style Pegg and Frost in 'Paul'

paul.jpg

That Paul movie--the one directed by Adventureland's Greg Mottola that stars longtime collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as sci-fi fanboys who befriend an alien they find near Area 51. You were looking forward to that picture, right? Well, here's the first look at them (along with Blythe Danner and Kristen Wiig) in their geek regalia.

Pretty accurate sci-fi geek uniforms, I'd say--especially if that's a lightsaber strapped to the back of Frost--but without the presence of a greasy ponytail slapping against at least one of their lumbar regions, I can't give them an 'A'.

'Paul' Puts Together Comedy Supergroup

seth-rogen.jpg

The Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz teaming of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in a sci-fi buddy comedy directed by Superbad/Adventureland director Greg Mottola. That's the line-up for Paul, and that's already a pretty promising movie. I'll pack up the family and see that one. But that deal just got a little sweeter, friends. Variety is reporting Seth Rogen, Jason Bateman, Jane Lynch (the tall, short-haired blonde mole from Arrested Development and other funny things) and half the Adventureland cast have been added as well:

Universal and Working Title Films have added Seth Rogen, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Jane Lynch to the cast of "Paul."

Pegg and Frost, who wrote the script, will play two science-fiction fanatics on a road trip whose conspiracy dreams come true when they trek to Area 51 and encounter the title character, an escaped alien.

Rogen will provide the voice of the alien.

This thing is really shaping up to become what we "in the business" call "a movie with funny, talented screenwriters, a proven director, and a strong, genre-appropriate cast." Let's all see it opening weekend in select cities.

Pegg and Frost Helping 'Paul' Return to Alien Homeworld

pegg-frost.jpg

Hey, fellow Simon Pegg/Nick Frost fans, this Variety article has shed some new light on their upcoming project with Superbad director Greg Mottola:

Story revolves around two British slackers who, after visiting Comic-Con, go on a road trip to Area 51, where they encounter a small alien named Paul, who enlists them to help him find his way home. Pegg and Frost penned the screenplay for the pic, which will shoot in March.

In keeping with Pegg/Frost tradition, we also know of one scene that's virtually assured in this dangerously Mac and Me-resembling premise: the alien Paul adorably requesting a Cornetto.*

*I'm aware this isn't officially part of the Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz/The World Ends "blood and ice cream trilogy", but if it were, Cornetto could be the new Reese's Pieces in the tradition of treats popularized by home-seeking movie aliens.

Simon Pegg 'Bastard' No Longer

simon-pegg.jpg

On his official MySpace page, Simon Pegg has announced he'll no longer be appearing in Inglorious Bastards, instead choosing to work on Paul with Superbad director Greg Mottola:

Much to our mutual disappointment, I won't be appearing in QT's forthcoming Inglorious Bastards due to insurmountable scheduling difficulties. We really tried to make it work but in the end, it just was not possible without severe ramifications elsewhere.

I'm trying to remain upbeat, as Tom Selleck said "Who the hell is Indiana Jones anyway?"

As Peggylover commented, "the movie just wouldn't be Glorius without you!" So true. So true.
