Folklore Surrounding Football Video Game Soon a Movie

madden-2000.jpg

As more and more video game companies have been finding ways to shove their creations into theaters--such as by letting Uwe Boll take care of it as he sees fit--developers EA Sports has sadly been left by the wayside, tasked with the seemingly impossible task of making their video games based on actual sports into films that would somehow be based on their video games, not on the actual sports the games are based on. Well, at long last, they've figured out how to do it: make a game based on a myth about one of their games instead!

Thus, Electronic Arts is working on Madden Curse, a sports comedy centered around the commonly-held superstition that appearing on the front cover of a Madden game leads to crippling injury--a medical occurrence otherwise oh so rare in the world of contact sports. According to The Wrap

The story will follow a former Madden video game champion who is forced out of retirement just as he finds himself on the corner of the game's cover -- and subject to the curse.

Is this a Cuba Gooding Jr. comeback in the making I smell? Or, worse, a new precedent for films based on video game urban legends? Tomb Raider Nude Code: The Movie? I Read You Can Be This Old Guy in 'Street Fighter II': The Movie? I Totally Beat 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' for NES: The Movie? This opens up so many options.
