Nobody puts Baby in the corner, but a remake of Dirty Dancing is fine to shove out of the way for a couple years.

Human-Angel Hybrids Could Maybe Be the New Vampires, and More...

- Director Ruben Fleischer has been adding actors to Gangster Squad at a pretty steady rate, and he's assembled a pretty impressive cast that includes Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, and Anthony Mackie. But there was one element his cast did not have, and that was People Magazine's haggard Sexiest Man of 1992. Now it does, though, because Nick Nolte has signed on to play L.A. chief of police Bill Parker.

- Captain America: The First Avenger co-writer Christopher Markus has put in his two cents for who he'd like to see as the villain in the next Captain America movie: How about Peter Dinklage as the giant floating head of MODOK? Not bad, but as I've said, what about Rainn Wilson as MODOK? I'm pretty sure that's what his head was designed for in the womb.

- Maria Maggenti has been hired to write Kenny Ortega and Lionsgate's contemporary remake of Dirty Dancing. "Nobody leaves baby in the corner, with the economy like it is--oh, my iPad is doing something," maybe.

- Zoe Saldana's Colombiana didn't do so hot at the box office this weekend, but maybe she'll have better luck with Dominion, a new thriller she's producing and starring in. It's about a woman being half-human, half-angel, though, so probably not.

Final 'Harry Potter' Has Made More Than Everything but Those James Cameron Things, and More...

- If you don't mind some early backstory on Anne Hathaway's Catwoman, read on: supposedly the character's criminal background is the result of years of abuse that led to a career stripping. Oh, right, I think I remember my friend dating Catwoman for way too long in college.

- Congratulations, Glasses Wizard: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 has surpassed Lord of the Rings: Return of the King to become the third highest-grossing film of all time, falling just under those James Cameron movies that made stupid amounts of money.

- High School Musical director Kenny Ortega has signed on to direct Lionsgate's Dirty Dancing remake. A quarter century ago, Ortega did the choreography for the original film, so this finally brings his career one full Swayze gyration. Good for him?

- Here's a new Adventures of Tintin poster, perfect for those insistent that all major transport mediums be given equal representation:

'Dirty Dancing' Remake Time

dirty-dancing.jpg

In these modern times, is Baby still safeguarded from corner placement? Time to find out! Production Weekly has revealed that Lionsgate is developing a remake of the 1987 Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Grey/Laws & Order's Jerry Orbach film about dirty dancing, Dirty Dancing. Meaning all those other movies where a guy and girl fall in love while scandalously dancing haven't been remakes of Dirty Dancing? I just assumed at least a few were.

With a remake of Footloose also in development, people who like to for some reason pretend that dancing is still considered lewd or taboo in any way have a lot to look forward to! Let's hurry up and get this in theaters so that Conan O'Brien can ironically demand its re-release in ten years.

If David Lynch Directed 'Dirty Dancing'

Not as haunting a juxtaposition as If David Lynch Directed A Goofy Movie or If David Lynch Put Still-Warm Panties in His Mouth, but still definitely worth watching for some new perspective on putting Baby in a corner: David Lynch's Dirty Dancing.

(Thanks, Matt.)
