Now There's Another Hercules Movie Coming Out Next Year

The Rock and greasy Brett Ratner are getting some competition in the mythical realm of Hercules movies no one particularly wants.

THR reports Die Hard 2 and Exorcist: The Beginning director Renny Harlin now has his own Hercules project going over at Millennium under the auspicious title of Hercules 3D (obvious confusion with Little Hercules 3D notwithstanding). What's more, while Ratner and Rock's Hercules: The Thracian Wars is scheduled for August 8, 2014, Harlin's film is being hastily prepped to beat them to theaters, with the studio already jumping into casting with an eye on a release next March. The screenplay comes from Hanna Weg and Sean Hood, the latter of whom already displayed his questionable skill at loincloth narrative with his script for the recent, immediately-disregarded Conan the Barbarian reboot.

Despite the "fuck you" scheduling maneuver, Harlin claims he'd he's like to "see both movies be successful," but was quick to differentiate the two projects, essentially dubbing his the dark, realistic demigod alternative to Ratner's comic book-inspired tale. "It's closer to Gladiator than flying horses," Harlin explained. So if anyone goes flying around in this tale, it's going to be by realistic means. Like an ejection seat, maybe.
