Razzie Nominations Assert 'Twilight', 'Madea' Franchies Are Not Very Good

madeas-witness-protection.jpg

The 33rd Annual Razzie Nominations have been announced, and yet again, pretending to be a woman has proven to be to the Razzies what playing mentally disabled is to the Oscars, with Tyler Perry pulling nods for his male roles (in Alex Cross and Tyler Perry's Good Deeds), his drag role (Madea's Witness Protection), and, admirably, the drag costume itself. Adam Sandler fared similarly last year with Jack & Jill--in the process setting a new record for nominations--and he reliably makes an appearance this year as well, he, Nick Swardson, and Vanilla Ice all earning disparaging nods for That's My Boy. The universally-reviled Eddie Murphy comedy A Thousand Words, rare earner of a 0% on RottenTomatoes, too got its expected nominations for Worst Picture, Screenplay, and Actor (Murphy's stalwart director Brian Robbins was robbed). But in the end, it was The Twilight Saga proving itself the most dependable target, Breaking Dawn, Part 2 dominating in its farewell year with 11 nominations from the only ten categories.

Here's the full list. Good job being terrible, everyone.

Typical of the film's spirit of one-upmanship between rival siblings that are actually but one entity, the Adam Sander comedy Jack and Jill has topped itself to set a new, even more impressive record of shittiness than it already set. With the Razzie Awards committee yesterday ... / Continue →

While the Academy last night showed an utter lack of recognition for Adam Sandler's daring attempt at taking on multiple characters--one of which was even mentally ill (I think?)--the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation have not made the same glaring oversight. The Razzie award n... / Continue →

It's a telling year in film when the nominations for the Razzies--the awards that celebrate our worst cinematic achievements--are more shocking and genuinely upsetting than anything the Golden Globes or Oscars have to offer. These nominees... I mean, where's the love for Furry... / Continue →
