Paul Dano To Play Beach Boy, Brian Wilson To Watch That

Paul Dano will be writing some infectious pop melodies across the staff of his ever-furrowed brow.

From a release from River Road Pictures comes news he's been cast as Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy, an upcoming biopic on the Beach Boys frontman. Tree of Life producer Bill Pohlad is directing--despite not having shot a film himself in over a decade--and the film is said to eschew the usual biopic formula and "take an unconventional look at seminal moments in Wilson's life." Pohlad is still looking for an actor to play an older Wilson, for such seminal moments as when he played with the cast of Full House.

Wilson himself is involved in the project, lending it his music, casting approval, and weirdly-descriptive plans for future viewing, saying:

"I am thrilled that Paul Dano has signed on to play me during one of my most creative explosions and most fulfilling musical times in my career. I still can't believe how cool it is that my life will be portrayed on the big screen and to have Bill Pohlad as the captain of the Sloop John B is amazing! It just makes me feel so humble. I can't wait to see it with a full tub of buttered popcorn."

As previously reported, the film will also be examining Wilson's struggles with drug addiction and mental illness, so the image of him watching this while delightedly munching on popcorn should be regarded as pretty weird.
