Frank Darabont Rewriting 'Godzilla'

godzilla.jpg

Marking the first dramatic update to the long-gestating Godzilla since someone on IMDb added Tommy Wiseau to the cast, Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont has been hired to do a final rewrite on Legendary Pictures' reboot.

He'll be nicely expanding his lumbering monster writing résumé beyond credits on The Blob, Frankenstein, and The Walking Dead, re-working an an already-multi-credited script from Max Borenstein, Dave Callaham, David S. Goyer, and Drew Pearce. Presumably, Darabont will also somehow be turning Godzilla into a particularly melodramatic Stephen King story, but those details haven't yet been fleshed out. What we do know is that Monsters' Gareth Edwards is still pigeonholing himself in the director's chair, and a March shoot date is being eyed to keep on schedule for a May 16, 2014 release. As with all Godzilla reboot news, please keep this sensitive information to yourself. Loose lips depress Matthew Broderick.
