Will Smith Welcomes Son to Earth in 'After Earth' Trailer

Following in Tom Cruise's post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventuring as closely as he follows in the actor's serious teachings of aliens and cosmic catastrophe, Will Smith stars with carefully-tended seedling Jaden in After Earth, a film that sees the father and son trailing in Cruise's Oblivion path of exploring a desolate future Earth where the few humans wear cool, paneled clothing.

As shown in this first trailer, the two crash-land a spaceship, leaving Will injured and forcing Jaden to step up and screen-test for that I Am Legend sequel, facing deadly threats on a lonely planet where all life has apparently evolved to kill humans. And as it turns out, that planet is Earth, so there are some killer baboons and stuff in here you might recognize and be like, "Oh, yeah, I think I remember those baboons from before they evolved to kill humans." Also, the film is co-written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, so there remains the chance the baboons will be ghost baboons or the Devil in baboon colony form or something, so keep that in mind. The killer baboons colony's true nature may not yet be revealed.

O, what a terrible alliance that's formed in the wake of our communal ire. It seems, for whatever reason, all the studios passed on the top-secret project M. Night Shyamalan was shopping around over the summer--something with Bruce Willis, Bradley Cooper, and Gwyneth Paltrow--... / Continue →
