First 'This Is the End' Preview: Seth Rogen & Friends Have Their Own End-of-the-World Party

Just in time to cash in on all the jokey chuckling already aimed at the apocalypse, Seth Rogen and his longtime co-writer Evan Goldberg have a first peek at their directorial debut, This Is the End, a comedy about the end of the world and what that means for the broader universe (of Apatow people). Rogen also stars, alongside pretty much every person he knows outside of Streisand, and in this red-band clip/teaser you get a sense of the in-jokey bickering and get a look at post-apocalyptic co-stars Craig Robinson, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, James Franco, and Danny McBride, all playing themselves. It's a bit self-indulgent to be sure, but unlike similar palling-around vanity project Grown Ups, it does not make the viewer instinctively spit a the screen in disgust, so it's got that going for it.

Other featured players include Emma Watson, Jason Segal, Paul Rudd, Aziz Ansari, Martin Starr, Rihanna, Kevin Hart, Mindy Kaling, and Michael Cera, finally stepping out from behind his many characters to play himself. This Is the End comes out June 14.

The stoner-buddy-action-comedy genre is not, inherently, a good one. When someone likes weed enough to write an entire movie about being stoned, there's an implication that they were most likely stoned while writing it, meaning there's a good chance the jokes are only funny whe... / Continue →
