Following recent appearances on SNL and the Emmy Awards that had Seth MacFarlane quickly defaulting to a Stewie voice in front of the camera, the suddenly-visible Family Guy creator has now been picked as host of the 85th Oscars telecast.
The Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences made the announcement today, noting that "[MacFarlane's] performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh," as most of their fresh ideas presumably involve songs and goofy voices.
In addition to his most famous accomplishment of giving the Fox network nearly all of its non-Simpsons animation programming, MacFarlane recently entered the film world as well, writing, directing, and providing voice-acting for Ted. Last year, he released a musical album of big band standards entitled Music Is Better Than Words. And now he'll use those skills to really show Billy Crystal how to really belt out a Frankensteined show tune.
