Lee Daniels May Direct Amy Adams as Janis Joplin

Currently working on the historical White House drama The Butler with Forest Whitaker, The Paperboy director Lee Daniels may stay in the past--in a time when people had not yet judged Nicole Kidman's peeing over Zac Efron--for a bit longer for the Janis Joplin film Get It While You Can.

One of two competing Joplin biopics in development--the other is being directed by Martha Marcy May Marlene's Sean Durkin, with Nina Arianda attached to star--the project has been lingering in development hell for years, with Fernando Meirelles and Catherine Hardwicke at different points attached to direct, and Renée Zellweger pursed lips set to push out a rendition of "Piece of My Heart." But according to THR, the project is now moving forward for an early 2013 production start, with Daniels now in talks to direct and Amy Adams signed on for the lead role. Adams will delight, even as she writhes through a heroin overdose.
