Colbert 'Could Be' Giving 'The Hobbit' Even More Geek Cred

Could acknowledged Tolkien nerd Stephen Colbert--seen here dueling Frodo with the sword(s) Sting, here unabashedly playing with Lord of the Rings toys and wielding Aragorn's sword Andúril, Flame of the West--have some kind of cameo in The Hobbit now-trilogy? Maybe!

Taking off his conservative satire mask to give Playboy a serious interview, Colbert revealed that Peter Jackson had last year invited him to New Zealand to bask in the glory of Hollywood's most expensive LARPing session, saying to the magazine (via):

"I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I'm a big fan of the films.

Then asked if his presence might have made it in front of the camera, Colbert reportedly gave the coy reply, "Could be." So... maybe he does! Or doesn't. But if he does, and if you render his character in pixel art on top of a cupcake or something, you are going to be very popular on the internet for a day or so. Something to keep in mind.
