John Travolta Might Be in 'Toxic Avenger' Remake, Which Will Not Be Campy

If you thought a remake of The Toxic Avenger framed as "a family friendly PG-13 action comedy akin to The Mask" couldn't get any more woefully-misguided, there's this now: John Travolta might be in it.
Though the exact nature of Travolta's participation isn't clear, It'sOnTheGrid (via) hints that the scenery/Charleston-chewing star could return to the world of discomforting facial deformity, with industry-tracking site listing him as the sole actor attached to the Toxic Avenger remake. As was reported back in 2010, Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein, and Charlie Corwin are still set to produce, with Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink attached to write and direct. The site's updated logline retains the idea of reinventing the character as "an environmental superhero ... in the vein of The Mask," but now adds necessary clarification that the studio "doesn't want it to be campy." This isn't Hairspray, after all. This is a different kitschy, '80s B-movie remake that will involve John Travolta and facial appliances, and this one somehow won't be campy, okay?
