Actor, singer, dancer Sherman Hemsley has died at the age of 74, TMZ is reporting. Hemsley began his acting career in 1973 playing George Jefferson on All in the Family, and the character quickly became popular enough to earn his own spin-off series. After the The Jeffersons, Hemsley moved on to play a deacon in Amen, and later had recurring parts in various nostalgia-inducing series like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sister, Sister, Family Matters, and Dinosaurs. No cause of death has yet been released. Here's a video of him singing "Purple Haze" by way of a giant, cantankerous triceratops puppet:

He's movin' on up, etc.
