Never Mind the 'MacGruber 2' Thing, Says MacGruber

MacGruber is far funnier than any comedy based on an SNL MacGyver parody has any right to be, so the recently suggested idea of a sequel had some of the original's appreciators, myself included, sort of excited to see where a follow-up might see the main character go [poop]. But according to MacGruber himself, Will Forte, we should probably not be getting ourselves too worked up for this thing, because it's not happening.

Talking to AICN, Forte (and Andy Samberg) pretty much discredited director Jorma Taccone's prior remarks, alluding to how MacGruber did not really make any money at all, saying:

Will Forte: As for MACGRUBER 2, it's very much in the works. We're just... no, I'm kidding. Jorma mentioned it. He was really tired one morning giving an interview, and he said something stupid about it. Believe me, we would love... we had so much fun doing that. We're proud of it, and we jokingly talk about the sequel all the time. But I don't think anybody in their right mind would give us any money for it. If somebody gives us money for it--

Andy Samberg: I'll give you a thousand bucks right now.

Forte: There is going to be a MACGRUBER 2 then. Funded by Andy Samberg.

Samberg: On a flipcam.

So never mind, everyone. We can file this one in the mythic realm of Another Night at the Roxbury and Lil' Ladies Man, Jr..

Last time Will Forte spoke about the possibility of a MacGruber 2, he sounded pretty skeptical, as one often will be when their first film couldn't make back a $10 million budget. But that, like the rest of MacGruber's life story, was a long time ago, and speaking to Entertainm... / Continue →
