Rebecca Hall Will Instead Be Iron Man 3's Sexy Scientist

Remember how the suddenly-ubiquitous Jessica Chastain was all set to play "a sexy scientist every bit as smart as Tony Stark" in Iron Man 3? Well, forget that. Now The Town's Rebecca Hall will be sexy and also a scientist who is every bit as smart as Tony Stark.

Earlier this week, Chastain explained why she had to turn down the opportunity to wear a miniskirt under a lab coat, posting on Facebook:

"My schedule is jammed packed, and I can't fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment [to Iron Man 3] far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I'm so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there'll be another Marvel film in my future."

Now, according to THR, Hall is in negotiations for the role, which still hasn't been named but is said to be a "supporting" part in accordance with Gwyneth Paltrow's demand to be the central GOOPy presence in the latest Iron Man sequel. Your guess for the role is as good as mine. Maybe she's Maya Hansen, from the "Extremis" comic storyline Iron Man 3 is reportedly based on? Female Scientist #1? Femme Fang Foom? Hopefully that one.
