M. Night Shyamalan's Next Is Basically 'Jurassic Park' Meets 'Tree of Life' (with Will and Jaden Smith)

With M. Night Shyamalan at the helm and a cast that includes both Will and Jaden Smith, After Earth would seem, at its surface, to be intended for audiences who liked The Pursuit of Happyness and absolutely anything Shyamalan has made in the last decade. Not the case! That kind of closed-minded thinking is probably why we didn't "get" that Devil was such an enjoyably taut thriller. Actually, Shyamalan has now explained, After Earth is for people who like movies with dinosaurs in them.
While tweeting about the difficulties he's having in trying to make his upcoming film both an indie drama and a high-concept sci-fi, the director said (via!):
I don't want to let go of either form. Maybe the tag line should be, "If you loved Tree of LIfe and Jurassic Park, you'll love After Earth."
So... it maybe has dinosaurs? Or it's really long and Wayne Knight dies? The film doesn't come out until next summer, and Shyamalan says they're just now starting effects work, so it will probably be a while before we find out (that it turns out it was the old lady that was After Earth the whole time).
