'Avengers' Made a Lot of Money Again, 'Battleship' Somehow Did Not

Your weekend box office:

1. The Avengers - $55.1 million, topping the box office for a third straight week, somehow holding on despite the obvious allure of a movie version of Battleship.

2. Battleship - $25.3 million. Evidently, aliens and a lengthy scene about birthday wishes weren't what people wanted in an inexplicable board game adaptation?

3. The Dictator - $17.4 million, easily beating the opening weekend of the 1915 silent comedy The Dictator. Suck on that, silent film star John Barrymore!

4. Dark Shadows - $12.8 million. In retrospect, Johnny Depp's character probably should have had a funny hat, too.

5. What To Expect When You're Expecting - $10.5 million. Wait, so audiences don't want a naval board game movie NOR a movie based around a self-help book about pregnancy?
