'People Like Us' Trailer: Captain Kirk Gets Inspirational This Time

As a writer of words to fill the hushed gaps among CGI clamor, Alex Kurtzman has little to prove. He's worked on scripts for The Island, two Transformers films, Cowboys & Aliens, Star Trek, and more. Outside maybe Sam Worthington, few have so much experience figuring out how to bide their time until the next computer-generated set piece. In terms of sentimental schlock, however, Kurtzman has little experience, so for his first directorial effort, People Like Us, he's decided to give that shot with Elizabeth Banks and his Star Trek muse, Chris Pine. The result is something that looks suspicously like it might have been plunged out of Cameron Crowe's office bathroom.

Wow, I hope those two get together! Except they're half-siblings, so I guess I don't. I hope... Kirk platonically dates Elizabeth Banks long enough that they bond and use the money to open a dad-themed bistro or something? I hope they become people? I have no idea. I'm not sure anyone involved does. But when in doubt, just toss an "Olivia" in there, right?
