Dan Aykroyd Won't Shut Up About 'Ghostbusters 3', Wants To Get the Gangling Nerd Character from 'Criminal Minds'

Considering the current record for deeply-belated franchise sequels, along with the noticeable plummet in quality from Ghostbusters to Ghostbusters 2, I think most of us would be just fine if the Ghostbusters' storage facility were left permanently shut down to the music of Mick Smiley. Unfortunately, most of us aren't vodka baron Dan Aykroyd, whose non-vodka interests lie largely in the field of ghost busting. And, despite Bill Murray's insistence it won't happen, Aykroyd still won't shut up about making another film with an all-new cast of specter capturers.
Speaking on Dennis Miller's radio show, Aykroyd once again took the opportunity to provide a portent of the imminence of Ghostbusters 3--with or without Bill Murray--outright telling Miller, "Yes, we will be doing the movie, and hopefully with Mr. Murray." The conversation didn't end there, though. Aykroyd then confirmed the rumor that a new group of Ghostbusters would be taking over for the aging team ("My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac; he's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness"), and then he even dropped a bit of hypothetical casting.
Ol' Danny Aykroyd, it seems, has just been lovin' those Criminal Minds reruns they show on ION every night, as he hinted that he'd like to get that procedural's Matthew Gray Gubler--who previously worked with Bill Murray on The Life Aquatic--to play one of the lead "three guys and a young woman" featured in what he calls "an excellent script." Of course, this wouldn't be the first time Aykroyd has been overly optimistic about another sequel, and this could just be more bullshit being spewed out in a Crystal Head-induced stupor, but hey, now we have something to worry about until next time Bill Murray refutes it all.
