Christopher Meloni Bringing Special Victim Unit Training to 'Man of Steel'

Christopher Meloni and Michael Shannon: together again, now outside the confines of a particularly disturbing Law & Order: SVU! According to The Hollywood Reporter, former SVU star and Wet Hot American Summer scene stealer Chris Meloni has signed on for a role in Zack Snyder's Superman film, The Man of Steel, in which former SVU guest Shannon is already signed to play General Zod.
Meloni's exact part is being kept secret, but despite the rumors that he'll play Lex Luthor--rumors seemingly spawned entirely from the fact Meloni is pretty bald--the actor claims he's playing "a general." And by that I'm guessing he means a human general, not General Zod, because that wouldn't make any sense (see above, re: Michael Shannon already playing General Zod).
No telling when we'll hear more details on the role, but at least we know Meloni has something to do with himself now that he's retired from the Special Victims Unit. After twelve years on the imaginary force, man's liable to go crazy sitting around at home dwelling on all those fake atrocities committed by C-list guest stars.
