Well, Spider-Man, Emma Stone Is Playing Gwen Stacy, It Turns Out

Boy, were our assumptions that Emma Stone was up for the role of Mary Jane Watson just because she completely looks the part wrong. A statement released last night has confirmed that while Stone is in the film, it's actually Peter Parker's first love, Gwen Stacy, she'll be playing--beating out numerous blonde actresses for the part of a character whose physical appearance is almost entirely defined by being blonde. Seems off, yeah? Not so, says director Marc Webb. It turns out she IS blonde! (WHAT) Also, CHEMISTRY:

The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.

I mean, they'll still have to bleach her hair and everything to get all that red out and turn her into the platinum blonde Gwen Stacy, but maybe it will be comforting that you can whisper to the stranger beside you at the theater, "You know, that's actually closer to her actual hair color than the fiery hair she's most famous for. You can confirm that on the film's Wikipedia page, which I've updated with this information."
